SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Chief Engineer shall have charge of day to day building operations and shall perform such supervisory or other duties as may be consistent with his functions as Chief Engineer and which are assigned to him by Operations Management. The Chief Engineer, in addition to performing bargaining unit work, shall be responsible to the employer for the safe, economical operation of the plant and for all persons employed under the direction of the Chief Engineer. The Chief is also responsible for the employer’s orientation, safety, and training programs of engineers under his/her direction. In addition, the Chief Engineer is expected to continue to perform maintenance and repair duties related to plant operation.
SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform corrective and preventive maintenance and operate facility systems as well as the well maintained appearance of all facilities and applicable equipment. • Perform assigned function(s) assuring that required, requested and planned repairs, modifications, installations, renovations and other general maintenance activities are properly accomplished in a safe, efficient and timely manner. • Perform all building hard surface maintenance and repair including walls, partitions, floors, ceilings, architectural concrete, window wall assemblies, pavers, asphalt, metal and wood features, etc and for miscellaneous equipment such as carts, telelift, fitness, dock equipment, etc. • Execute repairs, preventive maintenance and/or replacement of mechanical, electrical, plumbing equipment / systems, fixtures, valves, piping, and other devices as required. • Perform rough or finish carpentry and metal work to fabricate, assemble or repair windows, doors, hardware, screens, supports, equipment, devices, furniture, etc., includes miscellaneous shop fabrication. • Perform laboring or other semi-skilled duties including drilling, digging, minor roof repairs, cement mixing, equipment moving, component assembly, fountain equipment maintenance and fountain cleaning, replacement of missing floor or ceiling tile, debris removal, etc. • Maintain shop work areas in a safe, clean operating condition and maintain good housekeeping practices throughout the campus at all times. Report any unsafe campus conditions (structural or otherwise) and take appropriate action as required to resolve noted problems. • Perform building inspection duties, signage and painting work required for the facilities or equipment. • Maintain records, reports, recommendations, evaluations, etc., reflecting the conditions under which general building maintenance operations are performed. • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to coordinate working conditions with planning personnel and track resources/expenditures for all work performed. • Assist as required and coordinate with all trades people and custodians in the performance of day-to-day duties and responsibilities. • Assure tasks are completed in a timely and professional manner. • Work with other trade skill sets to complete work orders to trade standards and customer expectations. Willing to continue both formal and informal training in the present skill set to maintain the knowledge of the present and latest technologies. • Perform any and all other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
• Initiate the purchase of parts, materials, equipment, supplies etc., in accordance with company procedures and provide technical assistance when required to facilitate such purchases.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education:
Have completed an apprentice program and /or graduated from a certified trade’s school with two years of experience.
2. Experience:
• Have worked in the trade skill set applying for, for a minimum of five years. • Must be willing to continue training in their skill set to maintain knowledge in the latest equipment and technologies in their assigned duties. • Have the ability and willingness to work rotational shift, if necessary, including days, evenings, and nights as well as overtime, weekends and holidays as required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
• May work with hazardous materials and chemicals. • Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn.
