JOB SUMMARY The Associate Director will be technically skilled in many areas of health care, but will begin focusing on a specific area of specialization within the integrated healthcare system. Associate Directors will develop local, regional and national reputation for their expertise in this area of specialization through speaking engagements, articles, etc., and will begin selling small projects in this key focal area.
RESPONSIBILITIES The essential functions include, but are not limited to:
Technical Ø Structure project analyses and complete portions, as necessary. Ø Define creative approaches to analyses. Ø Identify new tools and techniques to be applied. Ø Ensure accurate application of business techniques.
Project Management Ø Scope and direct preparation of proposals, revising as necessary. Ø Manage multiple projects at any one time. Ø Control project scope and budget on medium-sized projects. Ø Develop/refine intellectual property concepts and potential market opportunities. Ø Identify and discuss project scope problems with client before they become budget problems. Ø Follow-up on receivables collections, as requested.
Client Relations Ø Develop strong ongoing relations with client managers, directors, and vice presidents. Ø Begin to interact with senior client management on a conceptual level. Ø Begin to address project direction and quality issues with client management.
Professional/Practice Development Ø Solidify the ability to mentor more junior NCI professionals. Ø Begin to become a firm “expert” in areas of market specialization. Ø Originate new client leads, develop follow-on potential at existing clients and close follow-on work at some clients.
BACKGROUND/SKILLS REQUIRED Ø Minimum of five years of healthcare experience (Provider, insurer or supplier segments; Strategic and business planning; Market assessment; Technology and life sciences; Basic finance/budget principles) Ø Strong conceptual, as well as quantitative and qualitative analytical skills. Ø Ability to direct and motivate members of your project teams. Ø Self-motivator with ability to work independently. Ø Strong organizational skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate. Ø Flexibility and responsiveness in managing multiple projects simultaneously. Ø Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including ability to positively interact with executives, providers and staff at all levels. Ø Strong facilitation and presentation skills. Ø Commitment to a continuing career in consulting. Ø Appreciation for the opportunities of a growing firm. Ø Computer literacy, working knowledge of spreadsheet analysis, word processing programs, computer graphics and data management.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Ø Bachelor’s degree required. Ø Master’s degree in Business Administration, Health Care Administration, or a closely related field preferred.
