Job Description

Researches and resolves coding issues and facilitates coding initiatives and requests for other departments. The focus of this position will be on government programs and regulations.

Job Essentials:

• Researches and writes coding policies in accordance to regulatory agency requirements and internal policies
• Researches to find codes that match the medical procedures specified by Medical-Tech review
• Reviews all new code releases to make sure that they are updated and configured in the system
• Facilitates and runs the Coding Committee; Researches, writes up and makes coding recommendations on issues identified; Works to implement decisions after they are made
• Receives coding questions from multiple departments and provides research and information to ensure questions are answered correctly
• Submits change requests related to codes and editing
• Conducts presentations on coding policies and new codes

Minimum Requirements

• Three years experience in coding/billing to obtain an in-depth knowledge of Relative Value Units, billing procedures, human anatomy and physiology, clinical medicine, insurance regulations, compliance and adjudication of claims
• Coding certification from a nationally recognized organization (e.g. American Academy of Professional Coders - AAPC or American Health Information Management Association - AHIMA)
• Intermediate skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and Internet research skills

• Excellent verbal, written, analytical and public presentation skills
• Sound judgment and decision making skills
• Ability to establish and maintain rapport with co-workers, physicians, and other health care providers
• Ability to perform job tasks independently and with minimal supervision

Physical Requirements

• Manual dexterity, seeing, speaking, hearing

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Medicare/Medicaid
• LPN or RN licensed in the state of Utah
• Knowledge of health care benefit plans/health insurance
• Skills in presentation software
