Position Summary The Senior Actuary in the Compensation and Benefits Consulting Practice will oversee and grow the actuarial team in Chicago (and the Midwest) and will work closely with retirement and health and welfare benefit consultants in the Practice. Essential Duties and Responsibilities· * Lead growth efforts for the actuarial team within the Chicago and Midwest markets; * Oversee the work of two other actuaries and other actuarial "students" in providing actuarial services to the firm's clients. * Assist with due diligence. * Assist with operational compliance reviews and IRS/DOL correction projects * Assist with plan design, benchmarking and modeling projects * Assist with benchmarking and vendor search projects * Perform nondiscrimination testing * Help write and structure client presentations, including development of recommendations * Research, and consult on technical issues specific to employee benefit plans * Participate in meetings with clients, including fact-finding interviews and presentations * Interact directly with clients and maintain client relationships * Work closely with partners, principals, managing directors, directors and managers in an integrated approach to client service and new business development * Attend professional development and training sessions on a regular basis
Required Skills and Experience * Required years of experience: Minimum twelve years of retirement or health & welfare experience * Education requirements: Minimum Bachelors Degree from a four-year college or university * Professional requirements: * Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) * Enrolled Actuary under ERISA (EA) * Member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) * Demonstrated success in the marketing and sales of actuarial and/or broad based employee benefits consulting services * Maintain current and relevant knowledge of legislation, market trends and issues impacting employee benefit plans * Able to work independently while also contributing to team environment * Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) * Ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly growing, fast-paced, interactive, results-based team environment * Strong work ethic and business acumen * Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail * Strong analytical and critical thinking skills * Experience in data analysis, benchmarking, modeling and overall plan design projects * Proficiency in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
