Job Description
Overview The role of the Digital Media Planner is to be the day-to-day steward of all online media plans. They must possess the most up-to-date knowledge of the media marketplace and maintain relationships with key outside vendors. The Media Planner starts to develop managerial skills by overseeing the Assistant Media Planner. The Media Planner reports to the Media Supervisor or Associate Media Director depending on account structure. Responsibilities: * Develop an understanding of client businesses and agency processes * Develop a respected relationship and train Assistant in all media basics * Master use and application of industry research and agency resources * Keep up to speed on new market opportunities and interactive technologies * Understand business/marketing objectives to effectively translate into media goals and strategies * Negotiate all media costs, positioning and added value * Demonstrate strong presentation and writing skills * Maintain contact with vendors and internal agency departments * Deliver POVs relevant to client issues and possible opportunities * Manage media buying process to ensure accurate completion by deadline * The tactical development, implementation and stewardship of each brand'sonline media effort. * Working with the senior members of the interactive team and theplanning group to develop media tactics * Selecting venues for online messaging * Working with the creative agency to develop the optimal ad units * Negotiates with vendors for efficient and effective ad placements * Sets up and maintains formats for reporting, billing and analysis * Handles reporting to the client, developing reporting formats and delivering insights about data * Relay direction to media team both orally and written * Continuously monitor campaign performance, recommending optimizations which will result in the most efficient overall campaign * Deliver campaign results to clients with a clear understanding of data analysis * Execute and/or oversee media buys, answer any questions and resolve discrepancies * Investigate media opportunities as they relate to client businesses and/or agency businesses * Multi-task and prioritize workload * Is well organized, detail oriented and demands accuracy * Has a willingness to learn and to creatively problem solve * Proficient in media-related and other basic software packages.
Requirements: * 1-3 years as Assistant Media Planner or advertising related experience * Strong knowledge of strategic planning, buying and online measurement * Tool expertise includes: @plan, Media Metrix, Nielsen and AdRelevance * Experience in third party set-up, trafficking and tracking * Strong knowledge of web technologies including rich media, direct emails,and emerging web platforms * Strong time management skills to assure projects are completed on time * Excellent account management skills ( budget management, adhering totimelines, goals and delivery, experience in working with a creativeagency)
