Job Description Job Title: Director of Fund Development FLSA Status: Exempt Accountable To: Executive Director Summary: The Director of Fund Development works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors to achieve the agency's mission by identifying opportunities for growth, reducing risk and strategic planning. The Director of Fund Development provides leadership in overseeing the activities of the Fund Development department. The Director of Fund Development is responsible for staff supervision, developing and monitoring of departmental budgets, developing, monitoring and execution of ASF's Comprehensive Communications and Marketing Plan, establishing a congruent yet profitable Sustained Giving Program, as well as developing and achieving departmental goals and plans in conjunction with staff. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Oversees and manages all Fund Development activities. 2. Provides leadership in comprehensive development and fundraising activities for the agency. 3. Plans, develops and executes strategies for obtaining private donations; identifying, cultivating and soliciting major donor prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations). 4. Supervises Fund Development staff including; Director of Communications, Grants Manager, Director of Events and Corporate Partnerships, Development Assistant, Events Coordinator and department volunteers. 5. Develops, monitors and evaluates the Fund Development budget, goals, programs and events in conjunction with the Fund Development staff. 6. Works with the Fund Development Committee Chair, committee members and staff to develop effective fund raising strategies that meet the agency's financial goals. 7. Acts as staff support to Board development, events and committees, assists in preparing agendas and fund raising revenue reports. 8. Develops, implements and coordinates strategies for raising awareness of ASF and its accomplishments among the agency's stake holders (clients, volunteers, donors), the HIV affected community and the general public. 9. Works closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Communications in overseeing all aspects of ASF's Comprehensive Communications and Marketing Plan including; communication activities with ASF's website, print materials, TV and radio media; and politicians. 10. Takes full accountability in coordinating and implementing all aspects of a Major Donor/Sustained Giving program. 11. Collaborates with the Foundation staff and Board in completing gift arrangements which require tax or estate planning. 12. Sensitivity to the needs of people impacted by HIV disease. 13. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. Competency: Successful track record within a Fund Development Department of a non-profit organization, including implementation of a profitable Sustained Giving Program. Qualifications: Must possess the following: 1. A minimum of five to seven years of increased responsibility in implementing and managing all fund raising activities, and organizational operations within a the Fund Development department of a nonprofit setting. 2. Demonstrated success and evidence of ability to plan and execute a profitable Fund Development Plan. 3. Demonstrated supervision of professional level staff with leadership, management, and administrative skills that motivate and build professional support and staff competencies; including: decision making, problem solving, planning, delegation, meeting management, organizing teams, noticing the need for and designing new job roles within the group, hiring and/or training new employees, employee performance management (setting goals, observing and giving feedback, addressing performance issues, firing employees, etc.) and ensuring conformance to personnel policies and other internal regulations. Other required skills include long and short term planning and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people. 4. Significant experience in initiating and stewarding major grants/gifts; coordination of events; the ability to interface with a diverse donor base; along with a meticulous attention to detail. 5. Excellent written/interpersonal skills are required. 6. Strong communication skills including ability to write and speak persuasively about the agency, as well as a commitment to the HIV AIDS community. 7. Strong budgeting, organizational and time management skills. 8. Willingness to work evenings, weekends and occasional travel (must possess a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance). 9. Must attend, monthly Board meetings, Fund Development Committee meetings, Communications Committee meetings, Finance Committee meetings and other department meetings as necessary. Education: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, public relations or other related field is required. Language Ability: Must have the ability to read and interpret any and all official correspondence, reports and documents. Bilingual capacity (English/Spanish) is a plus. Computer Skills: Must have knowledge of word processing and Fund Development related database software (Raisers Edge, Client Track and/or Financial Edge). Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises Fund Development staff including; Director of Communications, Grants Manager, Director of Events and Corporate Partnerships, Development Assistant, Events Coordinator and department volunteers.
