ROLE SUMMARY
This role requires exceptional interpersonal and collaborative skills with the ability to understand and work with diverse points of view. You will need to lead diverse groups to sustain a high level of quality. You will need to be proactive and a hands-on leader who is driven toward the achievement of team goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, supervise, and participate in Process Management and Problem Solving technologies training and implementation that drive Quality Assurance throughout product development and manufacturing.
Provide proactive levels of leadership and collaboration with managers representing appropriate internal and external functions and develop a strategically defined plan for quality management for the company. This plan will provide for a continuous quality improvement philosophy appropriate for the company on a global basis.
Coordinate and supervise the process of auditing and reporting on product quality issues.
Develop and administer quality programs dedicated to key vendors with the objective of progress toward "zero defect" status.
Audit the testing procedures of the product groups to ensure conformance to specification and applicable safety, industry, or regulatory standards.
Develop and implement a supplier certification program; improve supplier quality metrics on-time delivery and price.
Work closely with product development and engineering teams on the improvement of present products and development of new products. Ensure that quality standards and measurements are built-in to these processes.
Create a cost of quality system; identify major costs and facilitate action teams to reduce costs.
Direct the development of a continuous improvement process with vendors, including first article and ongoing incoming product inspection processes, as part of an overall vendor compliance and rating process.
Take the steps necessary to keep abreast of all developments in quality technology and systems, and evaluate technologies to ensure the achievement of world-class standard processes and procedures.
Travel to vendor facilities and visit customers to confer on specific quality issues as required.
Proactively establish quality initiatives, measure customer satisfaction, and implement improvement programs to address both preventative and remedial quality considerations.
Manage with corporate counsel the risk assessment, product liability, vendor qualification, insurance requirements, and relationship issues of the company.
Provide for continuous professional development of all direct and indirect reports, while embracing a philosophy of strong coaching and mentoring.
QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of 10 years in quality management within the cycling or sporting goods industry. Experience working with off-shore vendors (Taiwan, China, other Asian experience) will be critical. Experience in successfully developed and implemented best practice quality systems and process improvements. Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, proven cross-cultural experience, and strong organizational skills. A business or technical undergraduate degree is required for this position and an ASQ Quality Manager certification would be considered an asset.
