POSITION SUMMARY: Improve the quality and expand the scope of Project HOPE's Infectious Diseases portfolio, with primary focus in TB and TB related field, Increase Project HOPE's profile in areas of prevention, treatment and care programs through support of existing projects and proactively seeking opportunities for new programs. Provide technical assistance to on-going programs and input and advice regarding program design and program content for new Infectious Diseases initiatives.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Existing Field Programs 1. Provide technical leadership and backstopping to TB and other Infectious Diseases projects and to the Infectious Diseases components of integrated health projects; make recommendations for improvements in program delivery and outcomes; and follow-up with regional and country staff to implement the recommendations. Backstopping will take place both from Project HOPE Center and through in-country visits. 2. Assess existing projects without Infectious Diseases activities and provide recommendations for including Infectious Diseases components if appropriate. 3. Responsible for developing program content and preparing, reviewing and approving program designs intended to reach Infectious Diseases outcomes. 4. Ensure that program staff remains current in their knowledge by reviewing and disseminating new materials, guidelines, and technical reports. 5. Ensure that all Project HOPE programs benefit from the sharing of "lessons learned" from other Infectious Diseases programs carried out within the Project HOPE and programs implemented by other organizations. 6. Assist field programs to link with contractors, consultants, funders, local and international PVOs/NGOs, and relevant organizations to form partnerships and increase learning, thereby enhancing the quality and scope of their Infectious Diseases activities. 7. Work with country programs to produce quality and on-time reports to donors. 8. Work with country programs to monitor and evaluate results and impact.
Strategic Planning 1. In coordination with the Senior Vice President, Vice President New Program Development, and regional and other technical staff, assist in the development and implementation of strategic plans for TB and other Infectious Disease programming and expansion. 2. In collaboration with relevant staff, develop yearly operational plans for TB and Infectious Diseases programming to include implementing strategic plans and building Project HOPE capacity to develop and implement evidence based programs that achieve intended outcomes.
New Program Development 1.In conjunction with Senior Vice President and Vice President New Program Development, proactively investigate opportunities, develop proposals and seek funding for Infectious Diseases activities in countries where Project HOPE is not currently active, in accordance with HOPE-wide and regional strategic plans. 3. Develop partnerships with international, regional, and host country institutions in order that Project HOPE may contribute most effectively and collaboratively in the prevention and treatment of Infectious Diseases.
Other Responsibilities 1. Represent Project HOPE at appropriate meetings, seminars, etc. 2. Support Infectious Diseases activities and proposals, as directed by the Senior Vice President.
REQUIREMENTS: 1. Minimum of MPH required; MD/PhD preferred. 2. Five to ten years experience in international health programming and implementation of Infectious Diseases programs. 3. Specific program design and implementation experience in TB and one or more of the following Infectious Diseases areas: HIV/AIDS/STI, Malaria, large-scale vaccination programs. 4. Ability to think creatively about new approaches to prevention and treatment of Infectious Diseases. 5. Excellent communication skills in English. 6. Experience with adult education methodologies. 7. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work both as a team member and independently. 8. Willing to travel internationally 25-30% of time.
