Director of External Reporting and Compliance
Our client, is a $300M New York Stock Exchange traded premier provider of services to owners and operators of multi-unit housing properties, colleges, and universities in 43 states. They are well positioned for future growth, and are seeking the right applicant to assist the finance team manage this growth.
Fill the role of the lead in the area of regulatory compliance. Provide the key functional accounting areas of the corporation with the knowledge and direction to satisfy the many accounting rules currently in existence, those that are changing, and proposed changes. These compliance issues include SEC, Tax, GAAP, and Sarbanes. The position is on the same organizational plane as the corporate controller, and reports to the Vice President of Finance.
The successful applicant will not be constructing the original SEC documents or conducting Sarbanes testing, but will have oversight and must have done this in the past as the primary contributor.
*Lead consultation with internal customers on matters of GAAP, SEC compliance, business processes and systems, corporate accounting requirements and policies (including implementation of new GAAP), acquisition integration, and special projects *Work closely with outside auditors on matters of reporting, disclosures, and matters of potential importance. *Assist with due diligence for specific projects, acquisitions and unique transactions and ensure proper execution of tactics, programs and processes to meet the needs of both the business units and corporate finance; *Assist with purchase accounting for acquisitions, including coordination and documentation, valuation analyses and modeling, pro forma financial statements and models; *Conduct accounting research and prepare documentation/support as needed.. Ability to understand and lead ongoing processes/business improvements to meet corporate needs
Basic Qualifications: *BS degree in Finance/Accounting or Business Administration; *CPA required. *8-10 years experience of progressive responsibility in finance and operations within a public company with Big 4, or large regional accounting firm SEC experience; *At least 6 years knowledge of generally acceptable accounting principles and SEC requirements, and complex accounting treatments;
Preferred qualifications: *Experience with acquisition accounting and integration *Demonstrated communication and leadership skills
