Industrial Product Technical Engineer

There is an immediate opening for an Industrial Product Technical Engineer for the Fluorine Products business; this position can be located at the plant in Geismar, LA, Baton Rouge, LA or remotely if near a major airport.  Fluorine Products represents a $900 million segment of the Specialty Materials business unit and is a leader the refrigerants industry, manufacturing and supplying customers with economical chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) replacements and non-ozone depleting hydro-fluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants for automotive, home, commercial and transportation uses. The Geismar, LA manufacturing facility has approximately 265 employees. 

The Industrial Products Technical Engineer will play a key role in providing technical support services for the Industrial Products Businesses, specifically Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) and Borontrifluoride (BF3).  This position has significant technical leadership accountabilities within the Industrial Products Group. The Industrial Products Technical Engineer will function as a technical expert who's opinions are solicited from various areas in the company, as well as customers. This individual will be responsible for taking a leadership role in defining technical practices, establishing a technical Community of Practice, and developing training materials that educate Honeywell personnel and our customers.

As part of Honeywell's Specialty Material's Fluorine Products commercial organization, this role reports to the Industrial Products Technical Service Manager and will be responsible for supporting technical service for the Industrial Products Businesses, specifically Hydrofluoric Acid (HF) and Borontrifluoride (BF3).

• Drive technical service activities for HF and BF3, helping to maintain and grow existing business and gain new business


• Provide technical and engineering guidance to HF and BF3 customers to support commercial goals


• Plan and conduct process and procedural audits at existing and potential new customer sites to ensure compliance with regulations, Honeywell standards and industry best practices. Work with internal and external customers to implement corrective actions and recommendations based on findings


• Ensure that HF and BF3 safety, medical and emergency response training is provided to groups of customers' employees, emergency services personnel and others and frequently communicate to appropriate account managers the services provided to customers within their region


• Serve as customer relationship manager addressing issues such as defects in quality, on time delivery and transportation issues


• Monitor and interpret transportation and other regulatory issues affecting the business and recommend compliance actions


• Establishes and maintains multi-level relationships with customers


• Manages all technical communication with customers, includes activities such as addressing follow-up on technical action items, addressing and finalizing customer technical concerns


• Serve as the liaison to maintain plant distribution personnel involvement in business goals and resolve delivery issues


• Serve as the liaison to review equipment utilization and safety considerations and recommend appropriate actions


• Participate in and contribute to industry cooperative organizations e.g. API, NFPA, ACC HF Chemstar, HFIPI


• Develop and implement key product stewardship program activities to integrate HSE considerations


• Support content and publishing of semi annual HF newsletters


• Support the creation and updating of technical marketing literature, brochures, email blasts, presentations and updating the HF and BF3 website


• Support customer qualification of HF product and maintain qualification at key customer sites


• Provides technical support for sales activities including joint customer calls to increase Honeywell's commercial position


• Support planning and execution of HF Roundtable


• Support the inventory service for customer turnarounds and shutdowns


• Monitor overall market situation, customer activities and provide competitive information on how they affect our business


• It is also a possibility for this role to work remotely

Basic Qualifications:  

• Associates degree in technical field such as; Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Process Technology


• Minimum 5 years in Chemical Manufacturing

Additional Qualifications:

• Bachelors degree or advanced degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Process Technology preferred


• Experience in technical support for industrial and hazardous chemical products


• Ability to work in a cross-functional organization


• Strong business-to-business understanding


• Strong written and presentation communication skills


• Strong relationship management


• Proven self-starter, ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team


• Ability to travel 30- 50% of the time US and Canada
