General Job Description:
Under general supervision, candidates will facilitate training and assist in the operation, maintenance and execution of the Army's Improvised Explosive Device Defeat (IED-D) Lanes. This will include support for layout, maintenance, lane reset, simulations development, Training Aids, Devices, Simulators, and Simulations (TADSS) operator/controller/maintainer/trainer in support of live training IED-D Home Station Training Lanes. Must have a working knowledge of IED-D TADSS, and a practical working knowledge of IED-D and Counter IED organization and doctrine is preferred.
Tasks will include:
* Will be considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the area of live training, range planning, training devices, and training execution.
* Tailoring IED TADSS in support of the rotational unit's overall training objective, and set IED-D simulations that train, test, and assess unit IED-D skills and tasks using the most current doctrine, techniques, and current enemy and friendly trends, TTPs, and operations.
* Interface with installation Director/Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS), mission commanders, and home station training lane IED-D-Observer Controller/Trainers regarding training of the units, development and execution of scripts during rotations, pre-rotational briefings, and after action meetings and reports.
* Provide an in-depth assessment opinion of soldier unit performance and present feedback to the unit using the After Action Review (AAR) process at the completion of the exercise.
* Provide directional guidance, counsel, and assistance to any Opposing Force (OPFOR) or Civilians on the Battlefield (COB) personnel that augment the live training experience, and be capable of modifying existing scenarios as unit identified training changes or shortfalls are identified.
* Update and instruct in the use of IED-D TADSS.
* Attend necessary meetings and conferences to maintain awareness of current theater issues, IED-D capabilities, and new IED-D devices and training aids.
* Assist installation DPTMS in coordinating with all post level support agencies to ensure compliance with current training guidance and regulations to include:
* Provide support to the IED-D lane by conducting coordination with the installation Range Manager and scheduler for lane training.
* Conduct pre-rotational coordination meetings with the installation DPTMS, supported unit commander, mission commander, and IED-D HSTL, Observer Controller/Trainers prior to the scheduled training.
* Identify specific training requirements to support mission training plans; developing tasks, conditions, and standards in accordance with (IAW) applicable FMs, unit training strategy; desired scenario, OPFOR requirements, TADSS requirements, evaluation plan, munitions requirements, battlefield effects, and other resource requirements provided by the IED-D HSTL SME and the training unit.
* Conduct IED-D Lane on-site leaders' reconnaissance with the supported unit leadership.
* Coordinate and schedule pick-up and delivery of all necessary resources (located at installation), to support the training unit.
* Develop the unit training scenario in accordance with the supporting Operations Orders and Mission Training Plans and TTPs in conjunction with the HSTL IED-D SMEs and mission commander training requirements.
* Provide comments on the evaluation plan in coordination with the mission commander, HSTL SME and IED-D-Observer Controller/Trainers.
* Set-up and support of IED-D HSTL in coordination with Range Control, HSTL, and the training unit mission commander
* Coordinate with the installation Range Manager to provide supporting effort to HSTL IED-D Lane set-up.
* Prepare and support the IED-D Lane in accordance with mission commanders approved Mission Essential Task List (METL), applicable Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) TTPs as outlined in the training unit's mission training plan, and applicable tactics, techniques, and procedures as outlined in the mission training plan.
* Coordinate with the installation Department of Public Works (DPW) and the installation Range Manager as required to repair, install, move, or maintain material on the lane.
* Recover & Maintain IED-D Lane, conduct maintenance and upkeep of training and storage buildings, replacement of signage, movement of junk cars and debris, maintain, reset, and sustain the IED-D HSTL, maintain lane vehicles.
* Review and monitor access to the ranges to ensure safe and coordinated use of the range.
* Conduct inspections of the range and training areas for safety and environmental compliance by completing inspection sheets in accordance with the installation range control policy.
Specific Qualifications:
Military background and/or range and training background. Must have a working knowledge and experience in IED-D and Counter-IED doctrine and training devices. Must be able to negotiate rough terrain. Duties will require work in inclement weather conditions on occasion. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
Desirables:
Desirables include counterinsurgency operations knowledge, Combat Training Center experience, combat experience in the Southwest Asia Theater, and valid drivers license. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite desirable but not critical.
Desirable Certifications:
United States Army Special Qualifications Identifier (SQI) - H Instructor TRADOC. and/or successfully complete an Instructor Training Course (ITC).
Minimum Level of Education:
(Other education, commensurate experience and demonstrated ability of individual may be substituted.)
High School Diploma or equivalent
