Position Title:IT Operations Specialist About Iron Mountain Iron Mountain provides Information Management services that help organizations manage their physical and digital assets. Job Summary The Data Center Operations Specialist will diagnose and report system problems; document, resolve, and escalate problems and incidents to appropriate personnel; arrange onsite product support; provide support to offsite system administrators; conduct inquiries concerning products and services; utilize standard application programs; use independent thought and take a proactive approach towards system monitoring, problem reporting, and resolution; interpret and apply reference and technical documentation; and perform other duties as assigned. Essential Functions * 30% Provide first level support of applications, servers, networks, batch jobs, web site, application, and server monitoring using tools such as Espresso Cybermation and HP Openview. * 30% Monitor facilities resources including chillers, air handlers, UPSs, PDUs and other infrastructure equipment using Site Scan, Comfort View and other monitoring applications. Take appropriate actions on any alerts discovered or received. * 10% Perform tape library management, and shipping/receiving of classified information for a large number of customers. * 15% Understand all technical and functional responsibilities of data center operations, including scheduling, systems management, and business continuity. Provide technical assistance to operations technicians. * 10% Monitor the physical security and general housekeeping of the Data Center and Network Operations Center. Take appropriate actions to resolve issues. * 5% Install or de-install computer equipment, peripherals, cabling and associated components as needed.
Job Requirements
Knowledge Skills and Abilities This employee must have a good knowledge and understanding of data center operations and facilities infrastructure equipment. This employee will use Site Scan and WebContol monitoring systems to be a first level responder to facility issues. Business Expertise This employee must have a good knowledge of several operating systems including Windows and UNIX. This person must also be competent with the tape rotations that he or she will be required to perform. This person must have a good knowledge of HP OpenView, One View, and Cybermation monitoring applications. He or she will also need a good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and Visio. This person must possess very good communication skills in order to effectively work with offsite administrators and vendors. Leadership Provide technical expertise and assistance to operations technicians and other co-workers. Make sound decisions based on problem analysis and resolution options. Problem Solving Resolve complex and time-sensitive problems without guidance by utilizing excellent problem-solving skills as well as established standard procedures and practices. As a first level responder, this person must be able to recognize problems and issues, as well as their potential and likely resolutions, and know what support group to contact to ensure that the production data center remains functional with no loss of availability. Nature of Impact This employee is a critical member of the Customer Service Network Operations Center (NOC). Actions taken by this person will very likely impact large groups of customers (both internal and external). A loss of availability in the data center will very likely impact the business as a whole. Area of Impact This individual must have the skills to monitor and troubleshoot all aspects of customer integrated systems and servers, and will work with many groups, including CSG and Digital. Interpersonal Skills This person must have very good verbal and written communication skills, as he or she will need to work with many different remote team members and groups at all levels. These communication skills are vital to the success of this person's job and the data center as a whole, whether relaying accurate information over the phone, or documenting a problem or a follow-up to a request. This individual must also have problem solving skills, IT technical skills, and mechanical skills. The ability to work efficiently and independently, with strong customer service and communication skills is required.
Physical Requirements Ability to climb ladders, rack servers, run cables, push and pull equipment, and handle tapes and cases. This includes removing and replacing floor tiles, lifting up to 70 lbs, installing and de-installing servers in cabinets, and working in both a sub-floor and overhead environment when running cables.
