Responsibilities:

Directs a team of engineers/scientist that support the mission and functions of the AED Structures and Materials Division(SMD), Materials Branch by performing task involving development and manufacturing, airworthiness, operation and sustainment of the existing fleet and in-development systems of U.S. Army rotorcraft and fixed wing aircraft. Serves as the TO authority on materials engineering and provides analyses and recommendations on materials applications and processes to rotorcraft design, qualification, operation, maintenance and repair of Army platforms.
(Program Manger or Director Aviation EXPRESS may assign other duties.)

Provide expert advice to SMD managers, AMCOM Project Mangers and field Commanders on all materials related processes involving operation, repair and maintenance of the current Army fleet. This includes structural repairs, dynamic component change outs, corrosion and erosion protection and environmental impacts for aircraft and aircraft subsystems.

Provide expert advice to SMD managers, Project Managers and other Army agencies regarding materials applications, materials qualification, and manufacturing processes for developmental systems and modifications of existing fleet platforms.

Supervise and review technical reports, memoranda and other work products of a team of materials engineers/scientist that support the AED SMD Materials Branch performing the following tasks:

Witness system and component qualification tests, review and make approval/disapproval recommendations on qualification reports.
*
Provide technical support to the Army's Environmental Engineering and Logistic Program Office.
*
Perform assessments and/or review Flight Safety Parts/Critical Safety Item (CSI) listings/descriptions. Define Critical Characteristics for CSIs
*
Develop and/or review Airworthiness Qualification Plans/Specifications
*
Develop and or review/make recommendations on System Safety Risk Assessments. (SSRA)
*
Develop Production Lot Testing plans.
*
Review and make recommendations on Conformance Inspection reports.
*
Draft requirements for/review/ provide recommendations on Contractor Flight Releases and Airworthiness Releases.
*
Review and provide recommendations on Source Approval Request.
*
Review/analyze and make recommendations on Engineering Change Proposals.
*
Review and make recommendations on new or modified Depot Maintenance Work Requirements.
*
Support Supplier Interface and Oversight Program activities.
*
Prepare tasker response correspondence for SMD Branch/Division signature.
*
Interface with AED team leaders, Branch Chiefs, systems engineering and PMO personnel.
*
Prepare inputs to QinetiQ monthly report (PCR)
*
Prepare technical reports, trip reports, meeting minutes, and other technical memorandum.
*
Professionally represent the QinetiQ Corporation in all activities, meetings and deliverables, including incorporation of the company values of achievement, teamwork and quality.
The position requires the ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to analyze designs and processes involved in the development and sustainment of rotary and fixed wing aircraft in worldwide operations.

Plans, directs, and manages a major function of the engineering activities for the reporting unit with budget responsibility for the engineering functions managed. Responsible for the employment, training, motivation and evaluation of assigned staff. Directs the development of system requirements and specifications for various systems through multiple phases, makes decisions and recommendations that have impact on engineering and related activities of the division.
Qualifications:

A science or engineering degree from an accredited College or University and 12 years applicable experience, or MS and 10 years of applicable experience or a PHD and 8 years of applicable experience.

Security: Must adhere to all U. S. government security rules, regulations and policies and possess or be eligible for a SECRET clearance.
