Position Summary:
Nationally recognized academic facility-University of Utah Moran Eye Center seeks dynamic individual to manage large Ophthalmic Medical technician staff working at multiple locations; demonstrated ability to design and implement all aspects of technician training to JCAHPO certification including annual assessment/evaluation of skills. Must have achieved COMT level and presented information at local and national ophthalmic meetings.
Essential Functions: - Prepares an operating budget, which estimates various expenditures and monitors and reports the status of the budget on a monthly or annual basis. - Reviews all expenditures made by the center including all major equipment acquisitions of over $1,000. Such requests also require approval from the department chairperson. - Coordinates the total financial and personnel management functions of the Center with the corresponding support activity on-campus. - Recruits, interviews, selects, orients, and supervises the non-professional staff members. Assists in the selection process of professional staff members. - Acts as resource person and coordinator for explaining and complying with the University Policies and Procedures. - Manages the workflow by reviewing staff performance through period performance and salary reviews and revising the operating procedures as needed. - Obtains necessary equipment and manages the maintenance of the physical facilities including buildings and equipment. - Negotiates all types of contracts on behalf of the department.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: - Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above. - Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills. - Knowledge of University policies and procedures and department guidelines.

Qualifications: Required:
JCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist
Demonstrated experience in management of ophthalmic technicians including skills assessment/evaluation
Demonstrated experience in design/implementation/management of JCAHPO accredited technician training program(s)
Demonstrated experience in training/presentations at local and national ophthalmic meetings
