Job Description
Reporting to the Baxter Canada Controller, the Manager, Tax and Treasury is responsible for Canadian income and commodity tax risk management, tax compliance and tax planning for Canadian entities including involvement with any acquisitions or divestitures as required. Accountable for the administration of corporate income taxes and commodity taxes, corporate income and capital taxes installments, non-resident withholding tax payments and reporting, sales tax returns, and the preparation of the corporate income tax returns for Canadian legal entities and other corporate annual filings. Responsible for preparation and process for CRA and provincial ministry tax audits. Responsible for administration of the Baxter global transfer pricing policy as it relates to Baxter Canada. Responsible for income tax related reporting to the International Tax Group in Deerfield.
Internal and external Tax Expert:
•Act as primary company resource and liaison with all areas of Baxter Canada in regard to all income and commodity tax related matters including income, capital, withholding, and sales taxes. Monitor, interpret and communicate changes in income and sales tax legislation.
•Responsible for responding to formal requests for information from various income and capital taxing authorities and leading any meetings with income tax authorities dealing with income tax matters. Coordinate audit reviews by CRA and various provincial finance ministries, review audit findings and ensure minimum assessments through research and discussion. Tax preparation, reporting & filing:
•Accountable for filing of accurate and timely corporate income tax installments, quarterly non-resident withholding tax remittances, non-resident withholding tax returns, and sales tax returns.
•For the corporate income and capital tax returns, duties include organizing the collection of the information, researching issues, and ensuring the finalized returns are fully referenced and documented to the extent required for external audit purposes. During the year, accountable for detailed income tax provisions for US reporting purposes and responding to their queries.
•Accountable for the preparation of the income tax and related internal year-end audit schedules as well as the internal international tax reporting package. Assist with the annual budget for tax related accounts. Transfer Pricing:
•Leading the yearly process to update the contemporaneous documentation and working with the inventory team in preparation for the global spring and fall transfer pricing reviews with International Tax Group in the Deerfield, USA. Continuous Improvement:
•Identify and implement process changes to reduce transactional activities, and maintain or reduce costs while maintaining data integrity. Responsible for the preparation of income tax treatment instructions and procedures as well as participate in education and training sessions for company personnel as required. Compliance:
•Review, monitor and support income tax and treasury internal control systems, including completion of the Sarbanes-Oxley-related templates. Talent Management
•Provide coaching and feedback to staff to ensure ongoing individual / team development and the attainment of performance objectives.
•Regular coaching and feedback sessions.
•Provide leadership and motivation through transformational change. Treasury Responsibilities
