Position Summary: The Medical Director for Clinical Resource Management supports the mission of The University of Maryland Medical Center by facilitating alignment of clinical, academic and economic interests within the institution toward its stated vision. The Director will work with senior administration to help identify opportunities for improvement, to prioritize, plan and implement solutions that will improve the efficiency and quality of care at The University of Maryland Medical Center, and to be a link integrating clinical and financial concerns and activities of the Medical Staff, Hospital Administration, and supporting departments and services. In this position, he / she will serve as a physician advisor to functional units of the hospital such as Perioperative Services, Case Management, Performance Improvement, and Information Systems, and will exercise this role on relevant committees. The Director will also serve as a resource for external agencies including Medical Directors representing payers and others
The Medical Director for Clinical Resource Management will report directly to the Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer; and will coordinate with other staff in Finance, Nursing, and Information Systems, and will report quarterly to the Medical Executive Committee.
Responsibilities: - Serve as an internal resource for issues relating to managed care, case management and denials, length of stay and high-cost and high-impact supplies and pharmaceuticals.
- Serve as a resource for external Medical Directors, particularly in areas relating to denial of payment - Enable coordination of the clinical, academic and financial concerns of the Medical Center through participation in Value Analysis and related committees.
- Identify specific opportunities to reduce non value-added utilization of high cost pharmaceuticals and supplies - Communicate goals, strategies and progress in resource management to stakeholders including medical staff and senior management.
- Provide clinical guidance in the development and implementation of processes to monitor and improve clinical resource utilization.
- Attends and participates in in-service training and various educational programs for professional growth and development.
Qualifications: - A medical degree from an AAMC accredited medical school and successful completion of an ACGME accredited graduate medical education program. Master's degree in business administration or related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years post clinical specialty certification experience; experience with managed care, payer relations preferred.
- Minimum of five years progressively responsible planning, financial analysis, or strategy development experience. Healthcare-related background is preferred.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in managing, directing departmental operations and management/supervisory personnel, evaluating, training and motivating performance. Demonstrated ability to delegate effectively and to establish clear guidelines for accountability.
