SUMMARY: The End User Support Group directorate is charged with all aspects of operating, upgrading and maintaining the ASHP Hardware and Software infrastructure associated with LAN/Desktop. This includes design, implementation and operation of the current LAN environment and performing upgrades or improvements to the LAN.

The Network Engineer will be actively involved in the physical aspects of installing and maintaining the LAN and devices connected to the LAN. This includes but is not limited to:

- Wintel based servers.
- Network storage including NAS, SAN, and MAID.
- Backup devices including disk and tape.
- Wireless infrastructure.
- VOIP Phone Technology.

The Network Engineer will work closely with the Senior Network Engineer and desktop support to provide the needed environment and results to satisfy approved requests from end users.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

General Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Work as an integral member of the Team.

- Contribute knowledge and systems expertise to all LAN related design, implementation and maintenance issues.

- Provide input to new system migration issues.

- Set a positive tone by exhibiting a "can do", winning attitude.

- Achieve and maintain excellent interpersonal relations with all constituencies.

- Manage projects and set realistic expectations for the capability to deliver results while keeping management informed about project progress.

- Practice and promote open communications with all constituencies.

- Manage and control LAN operations.

- Provide necessary reporting to the Team and to ASHP Management as required, (e.g., monthly progress, status exception reports and others as required).

- Provide stable, high quality LAN operations for ASHP staff, both local and remote users.

- Manage the installation of LAN system software and upgrades by hardware vendor(s).

- Quality assure new functionality prior to putting a new software or hardware system or an update into production.

- Manage vendor support when problems arise that require vendor service.

- For routine operations, manage LAN system maintenance to minimize the impact on ASHP staff.

- Execute appropriate system backup and disaster recovery procedures for software and data including off site storage of recovery media.

- Prepare and periodically test equipment, program and data backup and processing recovery procedures.

- Develop methods, procedures and documentation of standard LAN systems operations practices.

- Participate actively in "after action" reviews, problem resolution and clean up tasks.

- Participate in ASHPs budgeting process and plan for LAN system upgrades and maintenance requirements.

- Develop a personal education plan to address the ongoing skills needed for this assignment.

- Participate in staff training as required.

- Provide after hour support as part of the on-call team.

- Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

- Three years of network administration experience, at least two of which is participating in LAN management and design.

- Bachelors degree from an accredited university. This requirement can be satisfied with job experience.

- Familiarity with Windows Server deployment and operations, familiarity with Dell Servers.

- Interest in achieving certification(s).

- Knowledge of related areas such as, but not limited to, Microsoft Windows Server, Backup and Recovery software, Tivoli Storage Management (TSM), Network design and Computer Telephone Interact (CTI) techniques.

- Knowledge of TCP/IP and related networking protocols.

- Knowledge of Vmware.

- Knowledge of Citrix Xenapp and/or Netscaler.

- Knowledge of Cisco VOIP and/or ASDM/ASA helpful.

- Prior association or nonprofit technology experience preferred.

- Strong communication skills along with excellent interpersonal relations skills.

- Experience with Storage Area Network (SAN) and related technologies.
