POLICE COMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR - Eau Claire Preview Exam
The Wisconsin State Patrol is currently recruiting for a Police Communications Operator for the Northwest Region in Eau Claire (Eau Claire County) located at 5005 Hwy 53 South. This position will assist State Patrol in carrying out its mission of promoting highway safety and enhancing the quality of life for all Wisconsin citizens and visitors. This position is a non-sworn telecommunications specialists who provides a "life-line" to state law enforcement officers, including troopers, inspectors and DNR wardens.
If you applied for the Wausau (Marathon County) vacancy in January 2012 and would like to add Eau Claire (Eau Claire County) to your application, please Duties: Police Communication Operators (PCOs) work independently, or with a partner, and are under continuous public scrutiny. PCOs are trained to operate highly complex computers and communications equipment, and provide liaison and technical expertise to various other state and federal agencies. PCOs transmit, receive and relay information concerning public safety and law enforcement activities; provide information and assistance to the news media and the motoring public; make decisions that are critical to the outcome of emergency situations; provide necessary information to field personnel for appropriate enforcement; work closely with other agencies to coordinate responses to crashes and emergencies; monitor locations of State Patrol vehicles and exchange information necessary for enforcement actions; and provide services for 10 state agencies and nine federal departments, including the U.S Army, Secret Service and the FBI.
Special Notes: A criminal background check will be conducted during the initial stages of the hiring process. Applicants with felony convictions will not be considered unless they have received a pardon. Hired applicants will be subject to a hearing examination and fingerprinting. In addition, applicants may be required to take a typing (at least 25 words per minute to pass) and work simulation test.
Well-qualified applicants will have: experience dealing with people from various socio-ethnic backgrounds; the ability to empathize with others and provide a calm and professional response even when under extreme duress; keen listening skills; and the ability to prioritize job duties, often in an environment where multiple emergency situations occur simultaneously.
