Introduction
The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Risk Assessment and Reliability Analyst.

Responsibilities
Play a leading role in the risk assessment, reliability analysis, and system engineering of spacecraft and space systems. Provide support during all phases of mission development including requirements development, design, fabrication, integration, test, and delivery. As needed, provide technical assistance to sponsors. The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking a Space Systems Risk Analyst. The applicant will perform analytic work which informs high-level decisions though probabilistic risk assessments (PRA) and other analytical methods for complex system analysis. Applicants are expected to perform as lead designer developing concepts, mechanics and methodologies while directing the actions of programmers, engineers and analysts. May also support analytical and development tasks to assess vulnerabilities of space systems and identify mitigation approaches and performance impacts. Successful applicants must have an ability to identify and analyze problems as well as design effective and achievable solutions. This position requires a combination of technical and creative talent.

Manage and create analytical frameworks using probabilistic risk assessment techniques compatible with large system development to include hardware, software, and human interactions. These frameworks should integrate with other disciplinary approaches including, but not limited to, game theory, cyber security, physics modeling, and event simulation. Create, document and communicate assessment design features. Develop data structures, tables and elements for organization. Design entities such scenarios and basic events designed to elicit appropriate responses to data collection efforts. Communications: Top quality oral and written communications skills. Prepare external publications and internal APL reports. Organize and lead/support design reviews. Organize, develop and present status reviews and other forms of reporting to keep program and line management informed. Sponsor Development and Technical Support: APL is looking to push the state-of-the-art with regards to integrating Risk Analysis with other tools in addressing problems of national import. As such, it is expected that candidates will be forward thinking and have the ability to recognize and respond to new-business opportunities within and adjacent to their areas of expertise. Proposal Activity: Consistent with sponsor development activities, provide proposal development and support, with a special emphasis on risk analysis. Lead technical aspects of proposal development and work closely with all proposal team personnel.

Qualifications
Required:
MS in Engineering or a related scientific/technical discipline with significant experience performing quantitative/qualitative analysis.
Ability to articulate complex issues to decision makers.
Experience developing technical briefings and academic papers, and managing tasks. Collaborative inter-personal skills.
Mathematical/statistical assessment experience with exposure to software such as SAS, S+ or Matlab and risk assessment software such as Saphire and 217 Plus

Desired:
PhD or working toward PhD in Risk Assessment, Reliability Engineering or a related scientific/technical discipline with significant experience performing quantitative/qualitative analysis.
Experience in space system analysis in both civil and national security space arenas.

While a TS security clearance is not a pre-requisite for employment, the applicant must have the ability to get and retain a TS clearance.

Special Work Conditions
Travel as required.

Security
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
