Located in Eastern Washington, enjoy the smaller town life: country space, freedom from traffic, easy access to recreational activities in nearby mountains, rivers, and forests, as well as great schools and tware Engineer - Linux EmphasisResponsibilities: * Build, deploy, and maintain Linux firmware build systems and other Linux-based custom tooling to support R&D efforts. * Work independently and in small groups to research, design, document, develop, test, release, support, and maintain custom tools that help R&D make the highest quality products possible. * Provide critical feedback on team member's designs, documentation, code, and tests. * Design, prepare, and present training on new and existing tools as needed. * Work with R&D employees to identify and support standard development practices. * Maintain familiarity with tools market (both open source and vendor supplied) and regularly evaluate new tools. * Work with IT department and tools vendors to support and resolve issues with vendor tools. * Participate in industry technical meetings and conferences as needed. * Help define standard tools for developers. * Work to identify, measure, and improve R&D's lifications: * B.S. in a Science/Engineering field or equivalent experience * Minimum 1 year experience in software development * Minimum 2 years of power user/developer experience in *nix systems * Minimum 20K lines of code written or maintained * Comfortable with version control systems * Proficiency with *nix tools (bash, sed/awk/grep & family) * Excellent writing, documentation and speaking skills * Proficiency in languages from at least two of the following categories: * C-like languages (e.g. C, Objective C, Pascal) * Scripting languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Ruby) * Object-oriented languages (e.g. C#, C++, Java) * Functional language (e.g., Haskell, ML, Lisp) * Desire and aptitude to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities * Ability to work cooperatively in a cross-project, cross-product environment * Capable and comfortable with regularly using multiple technologies and tools in a dynamic * environment * Background check results satisfactory to SEL * Negative drug test result(s)Preferred Qualifications: * Familiarity with the Linux gcc toolchain * Familiarity with autotools * Proficiency with *nix build systems (e.g., portage, emerge, apt-get) * Proficiency with embedded systems * Experience with modern version control systems (e.g., git, hg) * Experience as a release/system/networking engineer * Experience with relational database design and development (e.g. ER diagrams, SQL) * Familiar with testing frameworks (e.g., NUnit, JUnit, or other xUnit frameworks, TAP)Other Desirable Qualifications: * Served as a package maintainer for *nix systems * Release experience with firmware in an enterprise * Experience with SCADA systems * Experience building Linux kernels which have custom patchesAn Award Winning CompanySchweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc.
