Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the global Capabilities team combines people, process, and technology to deliver strategic business outcomes. The team is comprised of over four hundred people working across a diverse set of domains of expertise such as research & development, software engineering, project management, architecture, quality, industrial engineering, supply chain, and analytics. We deliver great customer value and business results by working cross-functionally to bring our business partners from research through design, development, deployment, capture value, and continuous improvement in the following areas: * Physical and digital product development * Online marketing systems * Web experience and commerce * Customer facing product design tools * Proprietary production platforms * Manufacturing operating systems
The team continues to grow rapidly and is expected to grow to more than 1,000 people in the next five years. The team delivers out of all of Vistaprint’s offices with larger teams based in Lexington, MA and Winterthur, Switzerland.
The Position
As a key leader in Vistaprint's Capabilities organization, the Vice President, Strategy & Operations will be responsible for leading the Capabilities global strategy development as well as facilitating the global planning process. This person will report to the CIO who leads the Capabilities Organization and be based in Vistaprint's office in Lexington, MA. The Vice President Strategy & Operations will be expected to champion and evolve the strategy and planning process across all capabilities organizations which includes over 400 professionals in 3 distinct geographies; North America, Europe and APAC. This is a unique opportunity to spear head the strategy and planning process for a rapidly expanding technology, engineering and R&D organization within a very fast growing, global and transformational company.
Key Objectives: * Ensuring that Capabilities has, and executes on, a compelling strategy: By strategy, we mean a cohesive view and roadmap to how the Capabilities team will succeed, taking an integrated view across our functions. This role will have primary responsibility for ensuring that a shared perspective and roadmap are developed and broadly understood, supported and implemented across the global Capabilities organization. * Developing a strategic competency within the Capabilities team. By competency, we mean creating a combination of people, process, tools, frameworks and metrics that give the organization the ability to tackle strategy questions effectively on a continual basis (rather than simply having expertise resident with a few individuals). * Facilitating Vistaprint's company-wide prioritization process for selecting the major projects that Vistaprint will pursue. This process ensures alignment across the organization, facilitates decision-making, and allows Vistaprint to execute on its strategy by building a global project portfolio. Includes: process design & optimization, process execution, coordination with corporate strategy, and coordination with COO strategy
Key responsibilities include the following areas: * Facilitate the discussion about Capabilities strategic questions and choices with the CIO, Capabilities Leadership Team, and Global Executive Team. Lead cross-functional projects and processes to define and resolve key capabilities strategy questions. * Coordinate & facilitate the creation and ongoing iterations of the Capabilities five year strategic plan. Key deliverables include: * strategic objectives / strategy description /roadmap and initiatives / Metrics and targets * Long-term financial model (including scenario planning, investment strategy) * Oversee development of Capabilities support and response to corporate M&A initiatives * Compliment the Capabilities near-term operational focus with the ability to anticipate and address opportunities and threats over a longer term horizon. * Cascade the high-level strategy into detailed, actionable strategies and operational plans. Establish and maintain core KPI's and metrics for measuring and cascading performance objectives * Own and drive the operational calendar, cadence, and milestones for the Capabilities Leadership Team * Lead the Capabilities Planning Operations team to deliver on project staffing, scenario planning, and post project performance reviews. * Drive the regular cadence of communication globally across the Capabilities organization including the quarterly performance to plan, achievement of KPI's and metrics, and achievement of strategy.
The Person The Vice President, Strategy & Operations will have a well-rounded leadership and management background, including:
* 15+ years of leadership experience in strategy, consulting, and software engineering * Demonstrated ability to identify and define complex, often ambiguous strategic questions and choices * Demonstrated ability to define and manage strategy processes at the senior executive level * Demonstrated ability to define and manage cross-functional processes and projects to answer key strategic questions and help senior executives make critical strategic choices * Significant experience tackling broad range of strategic issues e.g. enterprise architecture strategy, build vs. buy, global distributed delivery, global organization strategy, etc.
Additional characteristics and personal attributes will include:
* A MBA or equivalent advanced degree in Engineering or related field is highly preferred * Ability to travel at least 25% of the time including international travel * Superior facilitation, communication and presentation skills * Adaptable style that is comfortable within a high energy, action oriented culture * Humility and genuineness when engaging with others * Experience in an international setting preferred and proven capability in managing diverse cultural differences * Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop and manage great talent
