The Advantages of Working from your Home with Your Customer Service Job - Part 3

Posted by

As I mentioned in my last two blogs, when you have a customer service job that allows you to work from home, you can save time and money on the amount of gas spent driving back and forth to an office building. When you add to the mix, the idea of becoming an independent contractor, the savings go up dramatically. Whether or not you become an independent contractor, in this final article I would like to discuss some additional advantages to working from home with your customer service job.

One of the distinct advantages to working from home is the flexibility it gives you to work into your schedule certain family and household obligations. If you have pets, you can take care of their particular needs without having to use the services of a pet sitter. If you need to pick up your children from school or take them to soccer or little league baseball practice you can do it.

If you need to be home when the heating and cooling company comes by to tend to your air conditioning concerns, you can be there and not have to take a half day off of work to do it. Of course, you should work additional time in the evening to make up for any loss of productivity due to this extra time spent on these household obligations.

Another advantage that comes from working out of your home is lunch. First you don’t have to spend additional money to buy your lunch, not to mention the time and gasoline it takes to get in your car to go out to a restaurant, this and losing your parking space. You won’t have to put up with waiting in line, rude or inconsiderate restaurant staff, tipping, not being happy with your order, and all the other wonderful things that go with having to eat out each day.

If you work from home, you can have the best quality food any time you want, unlimited snacks, and bottled water for a fraction of the cost you spend in a restaurant. You have full use of all appliances to prepare your food or have some of that vegetarian soufflé you prepared for dinner last night.

Oh, by the way, you don’t have to put up with sloppy office kitchen cleanliness when you are in your own kitchen. Now, if that is a problem at home, you need to take that up with your spouse or significant other.

One last thing I would like to add to our discussion of working out of your home is that it makes your home more secure. By being there much of the time, you make it much more difficult for a home burglary to occur. In our neighborhood there are several home based independent contractors and businesses, and as a result it is quite common to see people going out to their mail box after the postal person has delivered the mail or watering their plants in the middle of the afternoon. This adds a bit more opportunity for social interaction and friendliness to our neighborhood.

So there you have it. These are some distinct advantages to working out of your home and living a higher quality of life because of it.
