  • Under minimal supervision, the Accounting Manager oversees the staff accountants in the General Ledger department in compliance with the Company's accounting policies. Employees in this job classification manage activities associated with general ledger accounting transactions and functions. This job requires knowledge of accounting principles and practices, familiarity with general ledger coding and financial statements, and the ability to establish and communicate accounting processes and procedures.

    WHAT YOU WILL WORK ON

    TYPICAL DUTIES

      • Works with the Assistant Controller to manage the month end close process.
      • Performs continuous assessment of the close process and suggests process re-engineering to streamline the close process.
      • Establishes departmental work processes and maintains written policies and procedures.
      • Supervises staff accountants; ensures a competent, motivated team through hiring, training, development, counseling and reviewing the performance of employees.
      • Oversees cross-training between accountants.
      • Constantly evaluates the workload and processes performed by the accounting staff to ensure processes are effective and efficient.
      • Schedules and prioritizes tasks and ensures adherence to procedures, regulations and guidelines while minimizing errors.
      • Reviews and approves monthly journal entries and reconciliations prepared by accounting staff for adequate supporting documentation and compliance with GAAP.
      • Prepares the monthly consolidated financial statements and company financial statement including balance sheet, income statement and cash flows in accordance with GAAP.
      • Plans, coordinates and works directly with external accounting firm on all audits and tax compliance preparation. .
      • Partners with internal departments to ensure adequate reserves in compliance with GAAP, preparing adjusting journal entries as required.
      • Researches technical accounting standards and disclosure requirements to ensure compliance with GAAP and tax requirements .

    WHAT YOU WILL BRING

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with a focus on Accounting or Finance; or comparable combination of formal education and work experience;

    • Minimum of two years of public accounting experience plus five or more years of industry accounting experience;

    • Thorough knowledge of standard accounting systems and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAS and GAAP), including non-profit accounting standards;

    • High degree of computer literacy and skills in specialized software related to department operations including ERP accounting system, database, spreadsheet, and word processing;

    • Ability to create a variety of documents including financial reports, narrative analyses, and spreadsheets including graphical representations; - Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering financial information;

    • Knowledge of fundamentals of staff management including hiring, supervising, assigning work and managing performance;

    • Supervisory skills to hire qualified employees, provide for their professional development, administer performance management and disciplinary processes effectively, and address employee relations appropriately;

    • Ability to effectively supervise and develop assigned team to meet production/service goals while adhering to safety policies and rules;

    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; to make presentations and respond to inquiries by senior management, customers and/or employees; - Demonstrated leadership, organizational, reasoning, problem solving and analytical skills; - Exceptional customer service skills; - Human relation skills to build effective relationships with team, customers and public;

    • Knowledge of business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation;

    • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to respond to changing work priorities and meet required deadline;

    • Ability to act and operate independently and as part of a team with minimal daily direction from the Assistant Controller to accomplish objectives and solve a wide range of business problems;

    • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees including team members, management and external entities to maximize performance and solve problems.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    Bachelors Business Administration or related field

    A comparable combination of formal education and work experience will be considered.

    CERTIFICATES OR LICENSES REQUIRED: The following licenses or certificates may be required depending on local, state and/or contract requirements:

    Certified Public Acct

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance:

    • Viewing computer screen/monitor

    • Keyboarding

    • Answering phone/making calls

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a normal office environment with limited privacy and some exposure to background noise. Employees may be required to work in excess of 8 hours in a day and/or 40 hours per week.

    • Compensation commensurate with employee qualifications, experience, and other factors including geographic location, market, and operational factors.

    • Pay Range: $70-75/hr
