    The Department of Corrections is looking to hire an Accounting Officer to work with MINNCOR. This position will update and reconcile Inventory records and provide cost accounting to MINNCOR management for decision making purposes. Responsibilities include: assigning and managing the flow of work, changing and/or modifying fiscal procedures, training employees, establishing and recommending burden rates, generating and evaluating monthly inventory reports for management. Establish and review control methods and counts. Performs related work as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    To be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below.     One (1) year of accounting experience in inventory, fixed assets, cost accounting, and reconciliation

    *An associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or an accounting/finance-related program may substitute for 6 months accounting experience. A bachelor's degree in the above may substitute for 1 year.

    All applicants will be further assessed based on

    • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices and bookkeeping sufficient to analyze and interpret fiscal information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.

    • Skills in using accounting software

    • Skills using spreadsheet and word-processing software sufficient to prepare fiscal reports and correspondence.

    • Effective oral and written communication skills.

    • Ability to research, interpret, analyze and explain state laws, policies, rules, regulations and procedures as they relate to fiscal operations.

    • Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance.

    • Experience in State government accounting or payroll

    • Experience with reconciling financial information.

    • Ability to be highly organized, determine priorities, balance a variety of duties at the same time, and work under time pressure.

    The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections' policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
