  • The Center for Student Success (CSS) is seeking an Associate Director of FLI Network (First generation and/or limited income students ) . The selected candidate will be a creative, team-oriented individual to support the social and educational experiences delivered via programming offered through the FLI Network, the hub for programming, communications and engagement for a growing, vibrant and diverse population of first-generation and/or limited-income (FLI) students on the Homewood Campus.

    The position reports to the Director of the FLI Network and is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of summer and intersession programs aimed at enhancing student development, engagement, and retention. This position works closely with the Director to oversee program operations, coordinate logistics, and ensure the delivery of high-quality educational experiences to students year-round with a particular focus on summer and intersession experiences. As a key member of the programming team, this role requires confidence and poise in engaging a range of partners in the CSS and across the Homewood campus (faculty, staff, alum, and students). It also requires a considerable degree of independent action.

    This role has a highly visible presence within the CSS and must possess a willingness and talent for engaging students, have experience in program planning, development, and implementation, and an appreciation for the student-centered mission of the Center for Student Success.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    FLI Network Summer Experiences (40%)

    • Collaborate with the Director in designing, planning, and implementing summer bridge programming that aligns with CSS goals and objectives.

    • Oversee logistics for summer experience, including recruitment, registration, scheduling, transportation, and resource allocation.

    • Develop pathways and implement curricula for virtual and on-campus experiences that address academic preparedness and skill development, career exploration, leadership development, promote cultural awareness, and personal growth.

    • Collaborate with stakeholders, including academic departments, student affairs, and community partners, to enhance program quality, expand program offerings, and promote student engagement and success.

    • Create and oversee academic co-curricular experiences that supplement FLI students' academic pursuits, fostering their personal and professional development.

    • Organize and coordinate pre-orientation activities and workshops designed to introduce FLI students to campus resources, support networks, and academic expectations.

    FLI Network year-round programming (40%)

    • Coordinate alternative spring break programs with campus partners that offer FLI students immersive service-learning experiences, leadership development opportunities, and cultural immersion activities.

    • Organize enrichment opportunities with campus partners, such as internships, research experiences, study abroad programs, or community engagement projects.

    • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and academic departments to identify and develop intersession courses that address the unique academic needs and interests of FLI students.

    • Align ongoing support and resources to FLI students enrolled in intersession courses, including advising, tutoring, and mentorship.

    • Develop partnerships with community organizations, industry partners, and alumni to enhance the quality and variety of enrichment experiences and course offerings.

    Operations & Assessment (20%)

    • Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and workshops through participant feedback, surveys, and assessment tools.

    • Stay current on best practices for supporting and engaging underserved, limited income, and first-generation college students.

    • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing program outcomes, findings, and recommendations for stakeholders and institutional leadership.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.

    • Proven ability to work across organizational boundaries as an effective member of a team, and a demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of campus and community constituencies.

    • Ability to work in an environment with competing priorities that require the coordination and management of students, resources, and timelines.

    • Must be able to flex working hours as required for some evening/weekend events and programming.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in multicultural education, higher education administration, intercultural communication, event planning, student affairs administration, or related field.

    • Five years of relevant experience required in designing, coordinating, and evaluating educational, social, cultural activities, pre-orientation, summer bridge and/or leadership programs. Experience with curriculum development, course planning, and instructional design, especially for non-traditional or experiential learning formats.

    • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Starting Salary Range: $64,000 - $112,200 Annually ($75,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
