    This is an Onsite position, no remote work - the candidate must be available at our site/ data center to manage work.

    About this role/ What you'll do

    As a Lab Manager, the selected candidate will be fulltime onsite at our Client's Site in Redmond, WA. The selected candidate will maintain The Garage Makerspace , the equipment, and assist with the planning and execution of events. In addition to this, specific project work could also be part of the job. The candidate must be extremely resourceful and able to deal with ambiguity; possess solid project management and problem-solving skills; be able to work independently and effectively under pressure and within short time constraints; prioritize while multi-tasking; must be personable and have solid communications skills; and, be flexible in the performance of the job responsibilities.

    You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our innovation lab, maintaining state-of-the-art machinery and robots, and fostering a culture of innovation in STEM education.

    Being a self-starter who is comfortable with minimal supervision is essential to the success in this role. You will work to achieve the highest standards and client satisfaction. The ability to work individually and as a team from the client site, facing customers to meet the proposed delivery of overall services to our client is the reality of this role.

    Responsibilities:

    Garage Operations

    • Maintain of equipment in the Garage

    • Ensure proper training and deployment of equipment, including documentation of best practices

    • Manage Garage inventory and liaise with Procurement to maintain inventory

    Garage Programming

    • Support in the delivery and execution of events & programming

    • Manage the calendar and communications regarding site engagements

    Special Projects

    • Assist in project-based work including hardware/software projects, 3d modelling etc.

    • Liaise with Management team on site and community initiatives that involve the Garage

    Manage

    • Participate in training sessions and workshops for employees using the lab and associated equipment.

    • Schedule and provide training on various equipment available in the lab, including 3D printing, CNC machining, and more.

    • Support projects by providing expert guidance on machine usage and technical solutions.

    Maintain

    • Inspect and ensure the lab facilities are well-maintained, including overseeing maintenance of major equipment.

    • Confirm that lab users are informed about safety and security measures within the lab.

    • Conduct regular lab inventory checks and maintain inventory of items issued to users.

    Communicate

    • Provide content for our website and communication channels to showcase working projects, workshops, and training.

    • Draft communication materials to inform the community about upcoming events and training sessions.

    General

    • Plan and execute tech refresh, identifying and ordering new equipment for the lab.

    • Manage procurement-related activities for the lab, including purchase order creation.

    • Oversee all internal communications related to the lab, events, and workshops.

    Who you are :

    A dynamic professional with a passion for innovation and have the skills and qualifications outlined below.

    • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics or related field is a plus.

    • Proven experience in lab management, robotics is a plus.

    • Understanding of Electronics with experience in Makerspace tools having proficiency in 3D printing, CNC machining, soldering, vinyl cutting and programming (Python & C++).

    • Experience with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, and basic IoT knowledge.

    • Experience with 3D Modelling, CAD CAM and Illustrator

    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    Professional Experience:

    • Prior experience as a IT Lab Manager or IT Lab Technician in a similar environment is a plus.

    • Experience working with 3D printers, CNC machines, and robotic arms.

    • Collaboration with industry partners in manufacturing, robotics, and STEM.

    • Representation of the organization at trade shows and exhibitions.

    Work Environment:

    • Expected to be in "Business Casuals" dress code and "Business Formals" expected for Client Events.

    Compensation at DXC is influenced by an array of factors, including but not limited to the experience, job-related knowledge, skills, competencies, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. A reasonable estimate of the current compensation for this position is $75,000 - $ 80,000 USD.
