    The Climate and Energy Manager will support our global climate change targets by updating and implementing our North American decarbonization roadmap to drive energy cost savings and reduce carbon usage.

    This position on the sustainability team will coordinate across departments to create a unified, integrated climate strategy. Additionally, this position will facilitate implementation of our climate plan by managing energy and capital investment. An ideal candidate holds a big picture perspective that aligns our climate work with overarching corporate goals and objectives.

    Job Functions:

    Climate strategy & reporting

    • Support our global science-based target commitments by updating our North American climate roadmap with insights and buy-in from cross-functional teams

    • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop operational plans for utilities and diesel usage, focusing on cost savings, carbon performance and commercial benefits

    • Directly accountable for quarterly and annual Scope 1 and 2 reporting and components of future scope 3 requirements

    • Build dashboards and reporting on key climate roadmap metrics

    • Set governance processes to review our performance against forecasts

    • Futureproof the business against new legislation and regulatory energy standards

    Energy Management

    • Manage utility budgeting and carbon performance processes, annual forecasting and financial and usage reporting

    • Create an energy management plan, including sub-metering approach, proactive outlier and exception management, and energy controls systems

    • Drive an integrated, efficient climate program where fleet, warehouse operations and centralized energy management are aligned and efficient

    • Develop innovative solutions in response to various regional legislation and assist warehouses/operations to reduce energy usage and transition to alternative energy sources (on-site generation, on-site storage, PPAs, etc.), where appropriate

    • Work together with key internal and external stakeholders on fleet optimization and carbon reduction opportunities (alternative fuel strategies, EV trials, energy demand, etc.) for a coordinated effort across North America

    • Align with real estate team on our warehouse portfolio and energy contract clauses

    • Interact with utilities consulting partner to manage our energy procurement efforts

    Capital Investment

    • Lead an annual utilities investment program that complements our strategy and maximizes returns

    • Manage an annual capital investment program, from planning, gaining approval, managing delivery and post-implementation evaluation

    • Develop an innovation pipeline to support our energy plan

    • Protect the business from variable energy costs and have a full understanding of external financing options available to the business

    • Identify sites with disproportionately high consumption (driven by asset age, condition, type and performance) and work with internal stakeholders, such as real estate and operations teams to design capital investment projects to reduce consumption and decarbonize our operations

    Requirements:

    Essential

    • 5+ years' experience in utilities, environmental management or related area preferred.

    • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability or an analytical field from a four-year accredited university or college required.

    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and identify trends, patterns, and inaccuracies.

    • Ability to influence without direct authority.

    • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity.

    • Strong project management skills.

    • Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and develop strong working relationships.

    • Self-driven to succeed with the ability to make a positive impact on business results.

    • Ability to translate quantitative data into qualitative messages.

    • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity.

    Desirable

    • Passion and curiosity for sustainable business practices

    • Advanced knowledge of Excel or other databasing software to organize data, develop data models for analysis, and create visualizations. Power BI experience a plus.

    • Experience with change management.

    • Experience managing a capital investment program.

    • Working knowledge of Greenhouse Gas Protocol

    • Experience or training in GHG Emission Inventory Management

    • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills when working with external vendors/suppliers and customers

    • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at various levels of the organization

    • Ability to keep organized and handle multiple workflows
