  • Overview

    Bowhead seeks a mid-level Communication Specialist with a focus on internal communications to join PMA-261H-53 Heavy Lift Helicopters Program Office at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of Associated Press style writing.

    Position is 50% Telework \ 50% government site

    The Communication Specialist supports internal communication with some external requirements and provides content for communications messaging.

    Responsibilities

    Essential functions will include

    • Create and edit articles, news releases, fact sheets, talking points, digital news pieces, message maps and other written content to stimulate internal and external interest in command accomplishments and enhance understanding of the command, its workforce, and mission

    • Draft weekly one-page newsletter

    • Coordinate communications efforts with program supplier

    • Act as POC for all program publicly releasable materials

    • Draft and edit military personnel and program internal and external award nominations

    • Conduct research to respond to organization and media queries and pass information to federal public affairs officer and others

    • Help leadership communicate effectively with the organization's nationwide workforce and general public

    • Take photographs of special events for documentation and program use. Organize and maintain program photo library

    • Assist with program event planning/organization

    • Help maintain the organization's corporate image and identity

    • Draft speeches, talking points and presentations for the organization's leadership and subject matter experts

    • Evaluate marketing programs to determine whether they are compatible with organization's public relations efforts

    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • BS or BA degree in communication, journalism, or a related writing-intensive field

    • 3-5 years' experience as a communications professional

    • Must be a strong writer utilizing Associated Press (AP) Style

    • Looking for someone that is proactive, passionate, can work independently and pays attention to the details.

    • Experience taking photographs is a plus.

    • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud is preferred.

    • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office suite skills - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Experience with Office 365 and SharePoint a plus.

    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.

    Physical Demands

    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

    • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

    • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

    SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
