    My client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join their non-profit organization. The Controller will play a critical role in managing the financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic guidance to support the organization's mission. This position requires strong leadership abilities to oversee a team of 6 finance professionals, as well as expertise in audit management and regulatory compliance. This position is located in the Columbia, MD area.

    Responsibilities

    Financial Management

    • Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.

    • Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.

    • Monitor cash flow, investment activities, and financial performance to optimize resource allocation.

    Team Supervision

    • Lead and mentor a team of 6 finance professionals, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.

    • Ensure the team's adherence to accounting principles, standards, and best practices.

    • Foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment to achieve organizational goals.

    Audit Management

    • Manage the annual audit process, including coordination with external auditors, preparation of financial statements, and resolution of audit findings.

    • Develop and implement internal controls to mitigate financial risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

    • Stay abreast of changes in accounting standards and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.

    Compliance and Reporting

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and reporting requirements, including IRS regulations for non-profit organizations.

    • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including board members, donors, and grantors.

    • Coordinate with legal counsel as needed to address compliance issues and mitigate risks.

    Travel Requirements

    • Travel 10% of the time

    Requirements

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in financial management, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.

    • Proven experience managing audits, preferably in a non-profit or governmental setting.

    • Strong knowledge of GAAP and non-profit accounting principles.

    • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

    • Willingness to travel once a month for 2-3 days.
