    Astellas is announcing a Director, Benefits in Northbrook, IL.

    Purpose & Scope:

    This job leads the Astellas US employee benefits function. The incumbent leads the planning, development, design, implementation, and ongoing management of a full array of employee benefits offered by Astellas US to attract, motivate, and retain employees.

    Astellas is at the leading edge of employee benefits programs and this job is the Company's expert on all Astellas US employee benefit programs. The incumbent requires strong previous experience to manage the evolution of Astellas US employee benefit programs as they advance in complex ways reacting to changes in the US healthcare environment, the regulatory environment, and the competitive marketplace.

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • This job is accountable for the following employee benefit programs:

    o Health and wellness programs: medical/prescription, dental, vision, health advocate, EAP, FSA, Teladoc, retiree medical program, etc.

    o Life and Disability: STD salary continuation and LTD insurance

    o Work-life balance programs: Family Care Solutions, Flexible Work Options, Leave Options, Adoption Assistance, Bridge Back to Work Program, etc.

    o Group legal services

    o 401(k) administration

    o Deferred compensation

    o Financial Wellness Program

    o StarPOINTS/StarCARDS recognition programs

    o Paid Time Off (Vacation, Holidays, and Year-End Company Shutdown and Leave of Absence Administration)

    o Employee total reward statements

    o Retirement coaching and program updates

    • Develop, recommend, and execute a benefits strategy to ensure that benefits programs are consistent with the values, strategy, and objectives of Astellas US
    • Monitor and evaluate all benefits programs to ensure that they are operating effectively, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations
    • Analyze market data and trends, participate in market surveys, research benefits issues, and develop key reports and information to guide benefits design decision-making
    • Develop, design or modify, recommend, and implement benefits programs to ensure that they support the benefits strategy
    • Manage benefits design or modification projects (including plan documents, system design and programming, and administrative processes) to ensure that they are completed to meet specifications, timelines, and budgets
    • Develop equivalent premium rates, COBRA rates, retiree rates and employee contribution rates
    • Manage the administration of benefits programs and processes
    • Develop and implement multi-channel communications and training programs to ensure that managers and employees understand and value the benefits they receive. Update and publish Summary Plan Descriptions, benefit portals, and employee total reward statements as required
    • Resolve benefits questions and issues, including eligibility and claims. Coordinate appeal resolution with benefits committee
    • Engage and manage benefits consultants and other vendors to ensure delivery of quality services and products
    • Mentor team members, providing guidance, direction, coaching, development, and recognition
    • Leads in establishing and prioritizing area's project portfolio. Uses conceptual thinking and information gathering in order to anticipate, identify, analyze, and solve complex problems

    Organizational Context:

    This job is the Company's expert on all Astellas US employee benefit programs. This job requires an in-depth subject matter knowledge, along with a broad knowledge of related disciplines. This job is the key advisor on benefits matters to all employees, managers, executives, and the HR community.



    • College degree
    • 10+ years of progressively responsible job-related experience
    • Deep and broad knowledge of employee benefits, insurance and ERISA programs
    • Proven proficiency in benefits plan design and administration
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and communications skills
    • Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, and/or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions


    • MBA preferred
