    Job Purpose:

    Lead an Enterpirse-widemulti-functional which manages all phases of the NPI (New Product Introduction) and the OIA (OPACC Improvement Agenda process for the Rail Locomotive Division. The position supervises or manages a work unit of primarily management and/or salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring, and reviewing work of subordinates is required. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates.

    Education / Training:

    Required Education

    • BS in Business or Engineering or equivalent experience and training.

    Preferred Education

    • MBA or Masters in Engineering;

    • PMP certified.

    Key Job Elements:

    • Lead the rapid development of technology products and processes for the products, working the process directly with customers and 3rd party vendors;

    • Supervise or manage a work unit of primarily management and/or salaried employees where planning, scheduling, monitoring and reviewing work of subordinates is required. The position is responsible for all personnel issues and performance evaluation of subordinates;

    • Ensure the development and training of the team. Communicate and coordinate with other teams and marketing companies when required;

    • Remain actively involved in all NPI decisions and activities (concept, design, build, test, release and production) as these decisions directly impact product group sales and profit, research, and capital;

    • Gain consensus from a variety of disciplines on appropriate goals, development plans and resources to assure program success;

    • Moderate travel required (5% - 15% of working time);

    • Employee is also responsible for performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    The position requires thorough knowledge of technology products and product applications, merchandising programs, and/or warranty practices and procedures. Broad company knowledge and strong understanding of dealer operations is also required.

    • Minimum of thirteen to fifteen years of progressively more responsible job-related experience on capital intensive, highly engineered, long life cycle product line;

    • Minimum five to eight years of Project Management experience;

    • Requires strong commercial, business, engineering and manufacturing skills along with an understanding of product test & development, materials, accounting and pricing functions;

    • Must have excellent problem-solving skills and good leadership and team management capabilities;

    • Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others and persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions;

    • Requires strong written and verbal communications skills;

    • Ability to travel as required (5% - 15% of working time).

    Essential and Physical Activities Functions

    • Strength - Position typically involves extended travel and office type environment. Employees will be exposed to the industrial environment on a regular occasion but will not be performing work in that environment. Frequently standing, sitting, and walking. Occasional light to medium-level lifting (up to 30 pounds);

    • Motion - Position regularly requires standard motions associated with on office environment. Occasional reaching, handling, pulling, stooping, carrying, kneeling, crouching;

    • Vision/Hearing Requirements - Constant verbal communications, including both talking and hearing in both an office and industrial environment;

    • Work Environment - This is typically an office position with occasion to frequent time spent with customers, vendors, and others in an industrial setting;

    • Emotional Demands - Very prominent level of responsibility. Must be able to coordinate diverse aspects of a project. Requires significant people skills while sustaining exceedingly ambitious standards in a high-performance work team;

    • Safety - Position is not safety sensitive. Position will require the use of Personal Protective Equipment when in any industrial environment that typically runs from hearing, eye, and foot protection. PPE is dependent on Progress Rail Location and customer requirements. Position may involve work in a non-temperature-controlled environment with occupational exposure to machinery, cutting and welding processes, and material handling equipment and cranes.
