The Director of Compliance will support the development and implementation of compliance programs based on the seven elements of an effective compliance program as articulated under the U.S. Federal Sentencing Guidelines and compliance program guidance issued by The Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General. The Director will oversee the day-to-day operations of the compliance programs for Cedar Sinai Medical Center, The Medical Network, and Marina Del Rey Hospital. As the first point of contact for regulatory and compliance issues, the Director will provide advice and consultation to ensure that potential issues of noncompliance are properly evaluated, investigated and resolved in a timely manner. The Director will be responsible for the development and management of compliance effectiveness tracking and reporting. As directed by the Vice President of Corporate Integrity and Chief Compliance Officer, the Director will provide input and representation on key compliance initiatives, meetings, and committees. The Director will also manage Corporate Integrity initiatives and projects for the Program.
Duties & Responsibilities:
â€¢ Understand, incorporate and demonstrate the mission, vision and values of Cedars Sinai in behaviors, practices and decisions.
â€¢ Act as a liaison and ensures regulatory updates from CMS, OIG, OCR, The Joint Commission, and California of Department of Public Health are disseminated to appropriate leaders and teams throughout the organization.
â€¢ Supports compliance with all federal and state legal and regulatory requirements across the organization.
â€¢ Chair and facilitate Compliance Committee meetings for Marina Del Rey Hospital and the Medical Delivery Network.
â€¢ Present on various operational aspects of the compliance program to leadership and Board and/or Board Committee as requested by Vice President of Corporate Integrity.
â€¢ Monitor, track and trend compliance program activities and develop related metrics and written reports, dashboards and presentations.
â€¢ Establish and monitor reporting system for use by employees, medical staff and others to report compliance issues and concerns.
â€¢ Review incident reports and areas of vulnerability and develop recommendations for risk reduction.
â€¢ Oversee monitoring of internal and external compliance audits and projects, including the timely completion of corrective action plans developed in response to findings.
â€¢ Support the consistent enforcement of disciplinary standards for compliance related violations in coordination with the Vice President of Corporate Integrity and Human Resources.
â€¢ Prepare timely responses and/or feedback to internal and external inquiries.
â€¢ Develop, implement and regularly review compliance program policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulatory and internal/organizational requirements.
â€¢ Assist with the development and implementation of privacy and security policies and procedures, as applicable.
â€¢ Facilitate the distribution and periodic revision of the Standards of Conduct.
â€¢ Collaborate with different departments to identify high risk roles and ensure specific compliance training is provided based on job function (e.g. coding and billing).
â€¢ Participate in the planning and performance of the annual and periodic compliance risk assessments and compliance work plan.
â€¢ Conduct research related to new and emerging legal and regulatory requirements and assess impact on Cedars Sinai operations in consultation with organization stakeholders and the Vice President of Corporate Integrity.
â€¢ Develop and facilitate performance of activities to assess the ongoing effectiveness of Cedars Sinaiâ€™s compliance program.
â€¢ Provide guidance and leadership in monitoring changes in laws, regulations and business ethics practices impacting corporate compliance programs.
â€¢ Maintain a working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, Cedars Sinai compliance program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
â€¢ Oversee and manage compliance staff to include compliance manager (s) and compliance specialist(s).
â€¢ Prepares and tracks compliance operational budget for the department.
â€¢ Prepare updates, and concisely communicate compliance matters to Vice President of Corporate Integrity. Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as demonstrated by the ability to articulate ideas, thoughts, and information in a logical manner, summarizing issues clearly and succinctly.
â€¢ Prove the ability to work on complex problems of broad scope where analysis of situations or information requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors.
Education Certifications/Licensure Experience Physical Abilities Educational Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree is preferred.
Certification in healthcare compliance (CHC, CFC-F, CHRC and/or CCEP) is preferred.
At least 10 years of experience in healthcare compliance, preferably for a large healthcare organization or healthcare consulting firm. The successful candidate will be recognized for demonstrated knowledge in compliance process improvement and the requirements of state and federal healthcare programs. Relevant experience may include past clinical, legal, auditing, or other compliance experience. Prior executive level management experience preferred
