  • GENERAL PURPOSE

    To provide leadership in the day-to-day operation, management, administration, and marketing of the Ain Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation (CFEI) and the Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) M.S. degree program. Initiate activities in-line with the strategic plan of the CFEI and the mission of the University of Rochester as an institution of higher education. Identify educational needs in the constituencies the CFEI serves, and work to connect University resources with the entrepreneurial communities on and off campus. Conduct needs assessments and oversee their development into program offerings. Serve as innovative manager of CFEI and TEAM staff and create collaborative relationships and institutional partnerships - both within the University and in the external community. Develop marketing strategies for CFEI's programs that ensure maximum exposure of the offerings to the relevant constituents. Provide direction and organization to CFEI and TEAM staff.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :

    With broad latitude for independent action and decision making, the Director of Entrepreneurship Programs will:

    45% Management of CFEI Programs & Activities

    • Manage the day-to-day operations of the CFEI. Assure the policies and procedures are effectively implemented.

    • Set appropriate goals for CFEI programs. Conduct/oversee program evaluation.

    • Provide input on the direction of entrepreneurship University-wide.

    • Give direction on the organization and implementation of various activities including seminars, presentations, business plan competitions, and special events supported or co-sponsored by the CFEI. Oversee the CFEI student business incubator along with the appropriate CFEI staff member.

    • Benchmark with peer institutions and monitors best practices. Occasional travel required.

    • Keep current on developments in entrepreneurship, entrepreneurship education, and the business industry.

    • Strengthen existing relationships and establish/form new, collaborative relationships with similar organizations.

    • Support the Ain Advisory Council in conjunction with the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship.

    • Work with the Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship and appropriate advancement personnel to develop advancement opportunities for the CFEI.

    • Assist Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship with special projects as assigned.

    20% Marketing & Communications Strategy (Internal and External)

    • Provide oversight of marketing, public relations, and communications for the CFEI and TEAM.

    • Identify target audiences externally and internally by program. Work with CFEI program managers to assign research to student workers in order to create targeted marketing lists.

    • Work with appropriate CFEI and TEAM staff to develop digital and print collateral.

    • Oversee the review of and updates to TEAM and CFEI impact reports.

    • Develop and implement strategies aiming to promote the organization's mission and brand.

    • Act as public speaker/public relations representative in ways that strengthen CFEI's profile.

    • Work with the Associate Director of Career Management & Career Relations to represent the University and the CFEI in meetings and initiatives with other community organizations.

    • Advise and connect community members interested in entrepreneurship with appropriate University contacts and resources.

    15% Oversight of M.S. TEAM Program and CFEI Educational Initiatives

    • Provide direction for the Technical Entrepreneurship and Management (TEAM) M.S. degree program's marketing activities along with the TEAM Marketing Program Manager.

    • Provide direction for recruitment activities for the TEAM program along with the TEAM Education Coordinator.

    • Work with Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship & Innovation and CFEI staff to develop educational and curricular initiatives, including potential certificates.

    • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Career Management and Community Relations and the TEAM Education Coordinator provide strategic direction for development of career opportunities for TEAM students and TEAM alumni.

    10% Management of CFEI Staff & Budgets

    • Recruit, interview, train, and contribute to employee performance evaluations.

    • Oversee work of and provide direction to CFEI andTEAM staff.

    • Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance, coaching, and recommendations for professional development opportunities to direct reports.

    • With appropriate CFEI staff members, initiate search for new grants and contracts as needed.

    • Consider and explore new revenue streams.

    • Work directly with Vice Provost for Entrepreneurship, CFEI.

    10% Represent the CFEI Internally/ Liaison with the University

    • Attend conferences and take part in committees and groups, act as liaison to CFEI and associated departments.

    • Serve on applicable University committees.

    • Attend meetings on behalf of department.

    • Attend professional meetings related to the programs and department goals.

    • Serve as liaison with key departments, as necessary, and may include:

    • Alumni & Advancement

    • Dean's Office Personnel

    • Provost's Office Personnel

    • Academic departments as necessary Perform other related duties as required

    REQUIREMENTS:

    Master's Degree or higher and a minimum of five years' experience in an entrepreneurial venture or equivalent graduate training and experience in enterprise creation; experience in higher education preferred. Strong management/supervisory experience and organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively network within and outside UR.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $ 58,000 - $113,000 Annually

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
