  • Job Summary

    The Underwriting Director is responsible for managing and monitoring aspects of the Builders Risk program including implementing processes and procedures, controls, and follow-up for profitable improvement of accounts through recommended rate increases/decreases, adjustments and coverage changes while ensuring the quality and integrity of the underwriting activities and processes. Develops guidelines and procedures regarding risk exposure, application renewal, acceptance, modification, and denial. The Underwriting director helps underwriters with more complex applications. Working in a high volume, multi-tasked, goal oriented, team atmosphere, this individual is responsible for fostering an environment of collaboration and providing leadership to the team needs to build relationships and meet customer expectations. This highly technical position requires a positive and motivated leader with a proven ability to meet deadlines, produce accurate and timely performance reports, identify opportunities for improvement, provide recommendations for viable solutions and refine/implement processes.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Develop, understand, enforce, and maintain all underwriting models, coverage forms and endorsements.

    • Analyzes programs, loss ratios and processes, makes recommendations to US Assure leadership to enhance work processes and setting policies and practices.

    • Ensure all processing and inquiries are handled efficiently within established time frames.

    • Collaborate with US Assure leadership regarding progress towards goals, procedural changes, and strategic planning.

    • Work with regulatory information and developments and change processes as required.

    • Recommends product development, including enhancing underwriting guidelines and policy forms.

    • Identifies team member development and training needs through regular interactions and observation.

    • Upholds a positive team environment that motivates employees, oversees performance, recognizes achievement, and develops staff.

    • Work in partnership with stakeholders to uphold US Assure’s corporate vision, mission, and values.

    • Navigates multiple company systems and resources.

    • Strong technical knowledge of underwriting practices and procedures.

    • Experience in loss ratio analysis.

    • Professional knowledge of company products and programs, procedures, eligibility guidelines and business rules.

    • Maintains appropriate working knowledge of company systems, processes, and business software to include mainframe and Internet.

    • Professional knowledge of leadership competencies and management processes to drive productivity and quality performance.

    • Professional working knowledge of Microsoft Office software with emphasis on Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    • Insurance industry experience, required.
