    Description:

    The primary purpose of the Director, Litigation job is to manage complex litigation across all U.S. businesses (Animal Health, Human Pharma and Biosimilars). This role sets the strategic direction for litigation matters (products liability, antitrust, competition law and commercial) and manages teams to achieve the company's goals. The successful candidate will be a strong performer, able to independently handle a high level of complexity, be confident in their problem-solving and project management abilities, communicate effectively within the Litigation group and its key stakeholders.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Strategically manages assigned litigation matters. Oversees attorneys and paraprofessionals and sets strategic direction for litigation matters in the areas of products liability, antitrust, competition law and commercial for Boehringer Ingelheim's U.S business.

    • Responsible for associated budgets and drives successful implementation of litigation management initiatives.

    • Develops and drives the execution of legal communication plans and strategies for litigation across all functions and organization levels.

    • Ensures coordination with a global legal organization on activities relation to U.S. litigation matters.

    • Represents Boehringer Ingelheim and serves as a point of authority with outside law firms. Confers with other in-house counsel, as appropriate.

    • Takes the lead in negotiating on behalf of clients to achieve solutions that attain business objectives.

    • Collaborates closely with other Boehringer Ingelheim legal department teams to provide advice and counsel to business functions.

    • Proactively identifies current and emerging risks and mitigation actions. Understands current and future business objectives and analyzes the applicability of current and emerging risks to these areas. Directly advises the VP, Litigation and other colleagues on issues that have legal importance and/or risk implications.

    • Keeps informed of new laws, regulations, and industry trends in litigation affecting the company.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Understanding of the pharmaceutical industry

    • Deep product liability litigation experience

    • Strong problem-solving skills

    Requirements:

    • Juris Doctorate from an accredited institution required.

    • Substantive legal knowledge and experience in areas of litigation, including product liability and commercial litigation

    • At least eight (8) to ten (10) years of relevant legal experience

    • Experience navigating a global, matrixed organization.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Excellent organizational skills; demonstrates discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
