Accelerated digital transformation and product development is at the top of Cengage's strategic agenda and is critical to achieving the company's long-term growth. The business is looking to hire an experienced strategist to help define and deliver Cengage's digital product strategy for the coming years
What You'll Do Here:
Reporting to the Vice President of Technical Product Strategy & Operations, this role will have three broad areas of responsibility:
Product strategy (majority of your time):
Build a 3-year coordinated product strategy and set of product roadmaps, in close partnership with Cengage's Technical Product Managers
Analyze market trends, and viability of new digital product offerings in current and adjacent markets
Work and coordinate with key stakeholders in the wider business, including editorial, corporate strategy and product leadership
Build relationships with customers to understand the workflows of students and instructors
Broader technical strategy - e.g., how can we better integrate and coordinate architectural strategy with product strategy? How should we improve our planning processes?
Leading special projects - e.g., defining Cengage's approach to in-platform communication, re-envisioning the academic faculty experience, etc.
Cengage is a highly collaborative and communicative organization, with a number of cross-functional initiatives and projects taking place at any one time. In addition to working closely with commercial and operational colleagues in Technology, the Director of Strategy will form relationships with other key teams in the group including Corporate Strategy, Sales and Marketing, Product (editorial) and International, most of whom are based alongside the Technology team in Boston.
Note: this position is located in Cengage's corporate headquarters in Boston's seaport district near South Station.
Skills You Will Need Here:
BA/BS and Masters degree with demonstrated high achievement - MBA highly preferred.
Minimum of 3 years' experience with Masters degree / 5 years' experience with BA/BS, including previous consulting and/or strategy experience at a top tier consulting firm; experience at a technology, media, or education firms a plus.
Experience with delivery / implementation, possibly from:
Longer consulting engagements (e.g. 6-12 months) which progressed beyond an initial strategy phase.
Experience outside of consulting, potentially providing greater exposure to results delivery / operational management.
Interest and / or previous experience in education, software, and/or publishing industries.
Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute quantitative analysis and deliver data-driven insights.
Strong financial analysis and modeling skills.
Demonstrated writing and verbal presentation skills enabling her/him to prepare and present information and recommendations to a diverse and often senior audience.
Able to self-manage progress and deliverables with a high degree of accountability and personal sense of urgency.
Proven experience managing both direct reports and virtual / cross-functional teams.
Some Travel expected (~10%).
Comfort with- and eagerness to tackle ambiguous problems.
Highly collaborative and able to influence outcomes. Should embrace, support and practice a collaborative style which goes beyond relationship building. Will achieve results with and through others.#LI-BG1
