    The Section Manager is responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the electrical section and resources within the Upper Midwest Region's Aviation & Federal global practice. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high-performance teams, and promoting the Burns & McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the section in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

    • Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the electrical engineering practice. Mentor and guide less experienced staff.

    • Responsible for effective communication with other engineering disciplines.

    • Responsible for profitable growth of the section; ensuring staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.

    • Implement, apply and support company, global practice and/or regional office programs and initiatives; successfully navigating and managing change within the section.

    • Provide expert level technical, design guidance and support.

    • Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

    • Manage department budget and expenditure of funds.

    • Prepare and present workload and monthly financial reports to global practice or regional management and applicable project managers.

    • Responsible for collaborating with business development managers, business line leads, project managers, and proposal production staff on proposals to secure work for staff.

    • Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.

    • Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for department staff.

    • Provide leadership, guidance, and instruction to the department.

    • Lead electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through design completion for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.

    • Prepare electrical equipment: packaged equipment specifications and data sheets, Request for Qualifications (RFQ's), technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.

    • Review electrical equipment vendor drawings; data interface with suppliers, clients other engineering disciplines, detailers, designers.

    • Participate in development of project schedule, scope, budget staffing planning and construction planning. Responsible for effective management of change orders.

    • Applies expert knowledge of commonly used electrical concepts, practices, codes and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry.

    • Applies knowledge and experience to complex projects, find non-standard design solutions.

    • Quality review production drawings for a variety of projects and project related data as required by the project managers to verify corrections are made within multiple CAD related software.

    • Quality review the construction administration including coordination with field personnel to resolve design related installation issues, calculations, field inspections and testing of electrical systems.

    • Leads field inspections, installation, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.

    • Prepare and present technical reports for clients and industry publications.

    • Build effective relationships with existing clients, customers and contractors and develop new business opportunities. Responsible for ensuring customer satisfaction goals and expectations are met.

    • Participate sales and marketing efforts and identify key pursuits.

    • Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements to achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.

    • Prepare and present project budgets and cost estimates. Report project performance.

    • Responsible for interpreting the organization's policies, purposes, and goals to staff.

    • Responsible for overall QA/QC process adherence.

    • Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.

    • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Complies with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor Degree and 5 years related professional experience Required or

    • Associate Degree in design or drafting and 10 years related professional experience Required.

    • Previous leadership and/or management experience Required

    • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

    • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

    • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

    • Candidates must possess strong CAD skills and a strategic perspective.

    • Expert in the use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD software (Revit, AutoCAD).
