  • Position Summary...

    What you'll do...

    We're looking for a creative, hands-on professional to guide the design and prototyping process of physical and environmental solutions for our members and associates. The right fit for this role has a mix of creative vision and technical knowledge to facilitate fabrication, modification, repair and testing of small- and large-scale retail models.

    Sam's Club is building Clubhouse, a dedicated space for ideas, collaboration and solutions that push our business forward and strengthen our commitment to being a member-obsessed organization. It's a 37,000 sq. ft. design studio opening soon in Bentonville, Arkansas. Here's where we'll imagine next-generation retail experiences, by designing for physical and digital experiences, prototyping, user testing and so much, much more. Clubhouse will provide the collaborative environment, and you will provide the innovative mindset.

    What you'll do:

    Build prototypes

    • Sketch out prototype plans, using hand-rendering or computer software

    • Produce scale models when necessary

    • Make changes to prototypes as necessary

    • Define the production steps, tooling and templates required for the assembly of products

    • Fabricate (or assists in fabrication of) prototype and conceptual components and assembles

    • Prepare and use manufacturing planning, written instructions, schematics, drawings and other applicable technical data to repair, fabricate and modify composite structures

    • Provide hands-on development of conceptual models and prototype components for use in the development of new products and/or design verification of high level systems

    Guide cross-functional teams

    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand their objectives and how to build the right solution.

    • Oversee building of prototypes, working alongside cross-functional teams

    • Modify fixtures and equipment as directed.

    • Evaluate or makes suggestions or recommendations for improvements in materials, processes, fixtures and techniques.

    • Correct discrepancies using information from conceptual drawings, diagrams, or other documents

    • Train or instruct other team members in operations that fall within their area of expertise and experience

    • Ability to transition smoothly between assignments on short notice

    Oversee budget and materials

    • Oversee budget and order materials for production of prototypes

    Manage fabrication lab

    • Ensure materials are properly broken down and disposed of after use

    • Receive instruction through oral instructions, rough sketches, process documents, or memos: determines equipment, material and fixture needs; set up, operate, adjust and calibrate process and assembly equipment as required

    • Make appropriate calculations relating to assignments, records data and maintains records using computerized equipment where necessary

    • Able to work with epoxies or other chemical solvents or chemicals used in hybrid processes.

    • Able to wear a respirator for extended periods of time (will be trained and certified as needed)

    What you'll bring:

    • Experience building prototypes and working with cross-functional teams

    • A background in sketching out prototype plans, using hand-rendering or computer software.

    • Experience making suggestions or recommendations for improvements in materials, processes, fixtures and techniques.

    • Experience using hand and machine tools .

    The annual salary range for this position is $70,000.00-$130,000.00
