  • GENERAL PURPOSE

    The Office of Equity and Inclusion (OEI) Lead Student Engagement Administrator (LSEA) a dynamic individual who provides a powerful connection between University of Rochester students and OEI. The LSEA is the primary point person for undergraduate students as well as graduate students studying at the Warner School of Education, the Simon School of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Eastman School of Music on issues and programs pertaining to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) on behalf of OEI. The LSEA is a DEIJ subject matter expert with the skills and ability to partner with students on programming, special events, conflict resolution, and key initiatives.

    JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    LEADERSHIP

    • Serves as an acting member and participant in the Chief Diversity Officer's ("CDO")'s leadership cabinet group.

    • In collaboration with the Executive Director for Communications and Relationship Management, develops and implements short-, medium- and long-term plans aimed at expanding UR's pathway programs through marketing and recruitment, mentorship, community engagement, mitigation of common barriers, and curriculum development.

    • In collaboration with OEI leadership, develops and implements strategic plans for student programming, culture, and climate.

    • Builds and maintains relationships with other departmental programming leaders and faculty to ensure standardization and alignment of objectives, processes, and expectations to meet UR standards.

    • Builds and maintains relationships with student leaders from all UR campuses, including elected leaders of affinity groups and student government organizations.

    • Serves as a role model for students as they develop their voices as DEIJ champions and activists.

    • Represents the student perspective in OEI Leadership.

    PROGRAMMING

    • Oversees the operations for undergraduate pathway programs in OEI.

    • Develops, implements, and reviews results from feedback mechanisms to ensure that OEI is successfully meeting students' needs.

    • Manages student engagement budget wisely, in collaboration with Assistant Director of Budget and Operations

    • Collaborates with students and student groups to host events to enrich student experiences pertaining to DEIJ

    • Finds opportunities to engage students in OEI activities, programming, events, and initiatives.

    RETENTION AND ENGAGEMENT

    • In collaboration with the VP for Student Life, ensures all students and affinity group members experience an inclusive and nurturing environment where they are able to thrive and reach their full potential.

    • Facilitates mentorship of diverse students with graduate students, faculty, and alumni in the community.

    • Serves as a resource providing advisement, mentoring, and support to minoritized students and affinity group representatives

    • Develops a comprehensive strategy for building, managing, and supporting undergraduate student affinity groups and programs with the explicit goal of increasing engagement across marginalized populations within the University community

    • Supports the ongoing enhancement of and participates in programs for accepted diverse applicants.

    DEIJ EDUCATION

    • In collaboration with the Assistant Director for DEIJ Education, provides opportunities for students to learn and engage on DEIJ topics.

    • Participates in on-going needs assessment for student education.

    • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Information and Learning Design to ensure that materials are suitable for student audiences.

    Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's Degree required.

    • Master's Degree in counseling or student affairs preferred.

    • 8+ years of relevant experience including leadership, counseling and diversity, equity, and inclusion required.

    • Or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

    • Knowledge of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 1991 Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX of the Education Amendments, Affirmative Action, Equal Employment Opportunity, and other related regulations preferred.

    • Knowledge of trends and issues impacting diversity, equity, and inclusion for students in higher education preferred.

    • Conflict resolution, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to research and interpret information/reports, exceptional interpersonal skills in dealing with complex issues within equity, diversity, and inclusion and social justice required.

    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.

    • Effective at managing complex and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment required.

    • Effective interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Required competencies: emotional intelligence, confidentiality, and privacy understanding and application required.

    • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information required.

    Pay Range

    Pay Range: $68,765 - $103,147 Annually

    The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
