    Where the chemistry happens...

    This position is an integral part of BASF's federal Government Affairs team in Washington D.C, assisting and advising BASF's Agricultural Solutions business on federal advocacy issues, including implementation of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act (PRIA), and the Endangered Species Act (ESA), product-specific registrations, and more. Responsibilities include developing corporate positions, advocacy strategies, and related analyses to advance BASF business priorities on agricultural issues, create business opportunities, and meet public policy objectives. This involves use of the full range of BASF advocacy tools, including direct lobbying of federal legislators, executive branch appointees, and their staff, leveraging key trade associations; and otherwise actively engaging in the policy/political arena.

    As a Manager of Government Affairs (Agricultural Solutions), You Create Chemistry By...

    • Developing corporate positions, advocacy strategies, and related analyses to advance BASF business priorities on agricultural issues, create business opportunities, and meet public policy objectives.

    • Coordinating with global and regional advocacy colleagues to ensure consistent positioning, while reflecting the demands of the US business and political environment.

    • Representing BASF before federal government officials and staff as well as a wide range of agriculture industry stakeholders.

    • Participating in relevant BASF's trade association and industry coalition groups/events and support BASF senior management in associated activities.

    • Developing collaborative relationships with customers, NGOs, and other partners.

    • Helping BASF businesses understand new legislation, policy, and regulations and their implementation.

    • Coordinating with State Affairs colleagues in their response to relevant legislative and regulatory proposals at the state level.

    • Writing whitepapers, speaking at conferences, and/or providing other thought leadership materials.

    • Developing and presenting briefings to senior executives.

    • Analyzing and synthesizing complex information into simple high-level written summaries, briefings, and infographics.

    If you...

    Education

    • Preferred JD, MA or PhD in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science/Government, International Affairs, Public Affairs or Chemistry or equivalent experience in government or business.

    Experience

    • Minimum ten years' experience working for a legislature or legislative committee, trade association, NGO, corporate office or combination of these.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience working on agricultural topics generally and an understanding of the specific policy landscape.

    • Excellent analytical and research skills to provide succinct analysis on issues including the ability to assess how policy proposals present opportunities or threats to businesses.

    • Strong relationship skills/capability in building and maintaining relationships with elected officials and partners.

    • Desire and capability to understand U.S. federal policy development and implementation processes.

    • Capacity and willingness to quickly step in and support objectives outside of direct business portfolio.

    • Ability to present technical facts to knowledgeable specialized audiences and to persuade others to a point of view using facts.

    Pay Transparency

    BASF is committed to pay transparency practices. The competitive Pay Range for this role is $160,000 - $190,000. Actual pay will be determined based on education, certifications, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
