  • Overview

    This role provides professional nursing care and support via audiovisual connection, telephone, and secured chatting platforms to critically ill patients throughout the region. The RN in this role uses critical thinking and communication skills to assess, plan, implement, educate, and evaluate patient outcomes. This RN uses nursing processes to identify patient care needs, risks, safety issues, educational opportunities, and appropriate health care referrals. We work within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate across the entire care team to develop and implement safe and effective patient care plans. Our RNs utilize HD cameras and microphones to communicate ‘face-to-face’ with patients and care teams. The TeleICU RNs use nursing judgement and critical decision-making skills to assess patients and situations while assuming responsibility for remote nursing care and documentation.

    • Identifies patient health-related problems and risk states and develops nursing care plans accordingly. Assists other nurses in assessment, diagnosis, care planning, and evaluation of outcomes.

    • Provides individualized nursing care, recognizes and takes appropriate action for significant changes in patient conditions.

    • Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care and makes necessary modifications to assist with optimal patient outcomes.

    • Establishes relevant, evidence-based and safe nursing interventions and priorities when providing nursing care.

    • Collaborates effectively with patient, patient's significant others, and members of the health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Acts as a resource to peers, student nurses, medical students, house officers, and other health care providers.

    • Communicates patient status through verbal, electronic, and written means with other health care providers, and takes appropriate action for patient well-being.

    • Observes patient to recognize nursing needs. Implements care/interventions through collaboration with other nursing team members, physicians or members of other health care disciplines.

    • Develops and promotes long-term relationships with spoke site facilities and providers, providing feedback and follow-up as indicated.

    • Identifies and offers solutions to patient care delivery issues through quality improvement, continuing education, research, and peer review activities.

    • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate from an accredited nursing program required. BSN strongly preferred.

    • 5 years of critical care nursing required.

    • Experience with continuous renal replacement therapy required.

    • Previous computer experience required.

    • Proven organizational and multi-tasking abilities along with strong customer service skills that include excellent phone and video etiquette.

    • Knowledge and skills sufficient to integrate the use of health care technology and/or information management systems into the provision of nursing care.

    • Associate degree (ADN) nurses must commit to completing their BSN.

    Required Licensure/Certifications

    • Required Licensure/Certification: - Registered nurse with NH and VT eligibility. - Basic life support (BLS) required. - Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) required. - Specialty certification preferred. - Membership in a professional organization preferred.
