The Plastic Surgery Service at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center (PPMC) has an exciting opportunity for a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to join our inpatient team of board-certified plastic surgeons. The Plastic Surgery team at PPMC is part of the Department of Surgery and provides care to patients undergoing surgery for abdominal wall reconstruction, body contouring, reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, complex hand and upper extremity reconstruction and maxillofacial surgery. In addition to the above, you will gain exposure to unique aspects of our plastic surgery service including but not limited to complex hernia repair and microsurgery.

As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) on this service, you will be an integral part of a high functioning inter-professional team responsible for the management of complex and critically ill plastic surgery patients. Responsibilities include inpatient management of both pre and post-operative patients, clinical decision making, procedures according to credentialing, inpatient consultation, interacting with patients across multiple subspecialties, complex discharge planning, care coordination, team collaboration and education of patients, family and staff. In this key role, you will provide quality care across the continuum in collaboration with collaborating/supervising physicians, surgical residents, interns, APPs, nursing staff and other members of the care team. You will also be expected to manage patient care autonomously within the scope of the APP professional practice. Opportunities for professional growth and development are encouraged through research, lecturing, precepting, as well as through departmental and hospital projects and committees.

All APPs function under the guidelines designed by the University of Pennsylvania Health System medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The PA hired will be held accountable through a formal job description, the delineation of privileges and their agreement with their collaborating/supervising physician who has initiated a Collaborative Practice Agreement.
