    Position Summary

    Responsible for managing the daily field operations and tactical aspects of the wood pole management programs for transmission and distribution (T&D) wood poles across the company's service territory. This position will cover all of Xcel Energy's operating territories.

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Provides day-to-day oversight of contractor activities and contract administration related to T&D wood pole assessment & treatment and reinforcement work. Schedules work, resolves operational issues, clarifies specifications and goals, resolves customer issues, and supports operating company personnel with informational presentations and data. Approves contractor activity reports and manages expenditures to budget targets, reviews monthly scorecards and productivity reports, and provides operational performance.

    • Administers the QC audits on completed work to verify compliance with quality requirements. Coordinates schedule for QC inspections, performs QC inspections, confirms the accuracy of the data delivered, prepares detailed and summary reports of the QC results, and leads review of the QC results.

    • Assists in the development of the asset management strategy and annual book of work for poles to be assessed and reinforced. Works with functional areas to determine poles to be assessed, reinforced, and replaced. Proposes and assists in negotiating annual performance targets with Vegetation Management and Pole Integrity, operating company leadership, and contractors. Works closely with contractor management/supervision to identify ""best-value"" work practices and to best complete special requirements/assignments.

    • Assists in validating the accuracy of the field data supplied by the contract crews. Makes field investigations to determine if field conditions match the corresponding data provided by the contractor, particularly in situations involving reject poles and the remediation of these poles.

    • Provides technical support and field experience to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the wood pole programs by using the collected data to make fact-based changes to the assessments and audits. Proposes changes to enhance the effectiveness of the current specifications and reduce costs.

    • Performs root-cause analysis for distribution wood pole failures and participates in the analysis for transmission wood pole failures.

    • Investigates and provides technical assistance to resolve pole procurement quality issues reported by company field personnel. Coordinates investigation and resolution efforts.

    Minimum Requirements

    Required Associate's degree in Forestry, Wood Science, or related field (3 years related experience may substitute for the degree)

    5 years of experience in utility contactor/crew management, wood pole assessment and treatment, utility design or operations (or related experience providing equivalent knowledge)

    Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Demonstrated leadership effectiveness.

    Ability to walk and/or drive for extended periods of time through various terrains and work in all types of weather conditions

    Ability to use hand tools, including but not limited to shovels and drills, to properly inspect poles.

    Preferred Requirements

    Demonstrated proficiency using work management applications, databases, and GIS/mapping tools.

    Experience and knowledge of wood pole assessment techniques

    Experience scheduling and managing contractor work activities

    Demonstrated proficiency in time management with limited oversight

    Basic analytics with experience in Excel

    The anticipated starting base pay for this position is: $69,700.00 to $99,100.00 per year
