    The anticipated salary range for this role is between $250,000.00 and $275,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.

    Role Description

    The role of the position of Director, in the Structured Finance Acquisition & Advisory Team, is to manage and lead the execution and the origination of both debt and equity (M&A) advisory activities for our clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors in the Americas.

    This individual will support senior team members in developing and managing client relationships by taking an active role in developing, structuring and executing a broad range of advisory and financial transactions for our clients in the energy and infrastructure sectors. The individual will also occasionally support other teams focused on cross-border transactions. Director will also provide guidance to Vice Presidents/Associates/Analysts and work closely with senior and junior team members in all stages of transaction execution including creating and delivering pitches/presentations, manage client relations and various departments within the firm.

    Role Objectives

    • Lead the pitching, attaining and execution of merger and acquisition (M&A) mandates, debt and equity capital market transactions and loans by leveraging the execution and lending capabilities of SMBC and its partners.

    • Actively identify and evaluate potential M&A targets, joint ventures, refinancing opportunities, and strategic alliances.

    • Guide junior bankers in the preparation of presentation materials, analyzing companies and industries and gathering necessary information.

    • Assists with identification of potential investors, lenders, buyers, and acquisition targets.

    • Coordinate the day-to-day of the execution of transactions by debt sizing and valuation exercises, managing execution timeline and due diligence process.

    • Cultivate relationships with investment banks, private equity firms, venture capitalists, and other relevant parties to source potential deals.

    • Lead internal coordination with other stakeholders regarding client interactions, transactions and credit approvals.

    • Manage client meetings and pitches. Demonstrate initiative and ability to contribute value-add information to the meetings.

    • Provides mentorship to junior banking team members.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • At least 8 years of investment banking, project finance, advisory or similar experience in energy and/or infrastructure sectors in the Americas

    • Demonstrated leadership skills and a team player approach with a strong motivation to contribute to a positive team culture.

    • Sound credit analysis skills and ability to determine relative value of investment opportunities.

    • Outstanding financial modeling/valuation and analytical skill. Create and/or work with complex financial models which support the analysis of power/energy/infrastructure assets or companies in those sectors.

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage a variety of transactions and projects simultaneously.

    • Ability to organize thoughts, clearly articulate points, and provide summaries and explanations of transactions, verbally or in writing, to clients, management, or other internal departments.

    • Demonstrates a high degree of attention to detail and an ability to complete work accurately and in a timely manner against strict deadlines.

    • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new processes and systems.

    Education

    • Required BA/ BS. Preferred MA/ MS/ MBA

    Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

    • Series 63 and 79 required. CFA a plus.

    Language Skills

    • Strong written and verbal English and Spanish communication skills. Portuguese is a plus.
