As part of the Research & Innovation team, the R&D Manager will be responsible for leading front end innovation projects for the home and commercial businesses within a cross-functional team.?
Lead the design and implementation of innovation processes, including product opportunity identification, human-centered design, and IP management
Partner with other disciplines including Marketing, Industrial Design, and Consumer Insightsto develop and deliver technology roadmapsthat drive the brand strategies
Identify technology partners and build business cases to develop new technologies for integration into future products
Champion the engineering efforts on front end R&D projects from opportunity identification to proof of concept delivery
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Collaborates cross-functionally with support organizations for developing both program Profit and Loss (P&L) and key drivers to ensure projects meet established objectives (e.g., margins, costs, revenue, etc.).
Investigates program success requirements and drives the path forward to achieve success in the most timely and cost effective manner.
Influences department budget development to ensure appropriate balance of resources across projects.
Demonstrates an expert level of understanding of manufacturing processes and technologies to produce a product and influence technology choices.
Facilitates monthly innovation funnel meetings for functional team.
Be naturally curious and relentlessly driven to find better solutions to everyday problems.
Identifies problems and conducts root-cause analysis to implement solutions using a systematic approach.
Develops and manages the implementation of emerging and disruptive technologies on a project level to meet program objectives.
Recommends and prepares new Invention Disclosure Forms submissions to provide Intellectual Property (IP) counsel.
Lead cross functional workshops and design studies to generate and evaluate concepts for feasibility,business alignment.
Be able to vigorously defend the best ideas but be open and receptive to input from a broad creative team.
Negotiates with development and delivery organizations in balancing the needs of NPD, productivity, and product derivatives to ensure the best business outcomes.
Incorporates consumer and market insights to act as a driver of innovation and project execution.
Incorporates an advanced understanding of product specifications, material selection, manufacturing processes, cost constraints, and regulatory and legal landscape IP to drive high quality, sustainable, and efficient new product development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical,Electrical, Mechatronic Engineeringor similar required
15 years of product development experiencerequired
5 years working as part of a front-end/upstream function are required
Demonstrates a proven track record of leading successful launches of durable consumer goods (on-time, on-cost, on-budget, and on-specification)
Demonstrates strong problem solving skills with evidence of systematic approach for identifying problems, root-cause analysis, and implementing the "fix"
Demonstrates experience with intellectual property and the patent process
Demonstrates effective planning/organizational skills with anability to multi-task and set priorities
Demonstrates strong rapid prototyping/design validation model building skills
Demonstrates experience 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred ), part and assembly models
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of relevant manufacturing processes
Demonstrates excellent communication skills-verbal and written
Demonstrates history of working independently and as a member of a team
Demonstrates proficient computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, and PowerPoint)
WE VALUE:
Experience building electro-mechanical feasibility prototypes
Experience with Sprints/Agile or similar accelerated product development process
Experience with Technology Research or Technology Road-mapping
Working knowledge of electronics, especially helpful if experience with prototype microcontrollers like Arduino, Raspberry Pi or similar.
