    ABOUT LOYOLA MEDICINE AND SAINT JOSEPH

    The Regional Chief Nursing Officer will have oversight for Loyola Medicine as well as Saint Joseph Health System. Loyola Medicine, based in Chicago, IL consists of 3 hospitals (Loyola University Medical Center, a Magnet hospital with 547 beds, McNeal Hospital 374 beds, and Gottlieb Memorial Hospital 247 beds). Loyola Medicine employees over 9000 employees (2300 nursing staff), with an annual revenue of approximately $1.9B.

    Saint Joseph Health System located in Mishawaka, IN consists of 2 hospitals (Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center 254 beds and Plymouth Medical Center 58 beds). Saint Joseph employees over 2300 employees (850 nursing staff), with an annual revenue of approximately $400M.

    The position will be based in Chicago at Loyola Medicine. Relocation assistance is provided. Travel is required to Indiana as needed.

    POSITION PURPOSE

    In accordance with the Mission, Vision and Guiding Behaviors, the Chief Nursing Officer works collaboratively with all members of the healthcare team, strategizing to position patient care services as a destination of choice for populations served throughout the care continuum, as well as a workplace of choice for attraction of the best and brightest physicians and colleagues. The CNO will have regional responsibility for standards of nursing practice, evidence-based quality and safety of patient care, deployment of evidence-based 'experience of care' standards, performance improvement, and nursing leadership development for inpatient and outpatient nursing services. The CNO will have responsibility for regional and hospital nursing operations, including regionalized services for Utilization Review/Case Management, Centralized Telemetry, Nursing Professional Practice and Patient Satisfaction. The CNO will have responsibility for budget & resource allocations, and financial accountability within the region working collaboratively with hospital CNOs, hospital Presidents, and other members of the regional leadership team.

    Aligned with the regional strategic priorities aims and the Trinity Health nursing and people centered care strategies, the CNO will develop, articulate and effectively implement a strong nursing vision and strategy for Loyola Medicine. The CNO is a member of the regional leadership team as well as various Trinity Health Nursing and Clinical Councils.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    Serves as the CNO/CNE leader across the Region, ensuring a collaborative and integrated approach to value-based care for nursing services, and other assigned responsibilities through accountable leadership demonstrated by self and hospital based Chief Nursing Officers. Leads satisfaction, quality and value initiatives as designated to achieve top decile performance levels. Collaborates with regional leadership, hospital leadership, physician practice leadership and the medical staff leadership to identify, develop and execute on the delivery of clinical care of current and future programs and instill and uphold a culture of nursing excellence. Develops, communicates and executes a strategy supporting appropriate staffing plans and standards of patient care and services that meet patient care delivery needs of the hospital and ambulatory entities using advanced analytics and predictive modeling. Participates with the governing body, management, medical staff, and clinical leaders in the organization's decision-making structures and process. Serves on various medical staff committees to ensure appropriate communication necessary to fulfill job requirements and to provide administrative representation to ensure the achievement of the goals of the organization. Implements and effective, ongoing program to measure, assess, and improve the clinical quality of nursing care delivered to patients.

    Functions as the CNO/CNE for regional policies and programs of care that address patient needs and ensures that all patient care areas establish and deliver the necessary patient services as required by the level of acuity and patient mix. Ensures that patient care delivery model(s) and clinical and staffing standards for nursing are consistent with contemporary research in nursing practice and professional standards, compliant with accreditation standards, state and federal regulations and laws and are aligned with Trinity Health Mission, Vision and Values. Develops system-wide educational and development strategy and curricular goals for the clinical nursing and healthcare workforce that optimizes clinical outcomes, colleague engagement, patient satisfaction, and internal development and retention of workforce. Participates with executive leadership in the development, revision and dissemination of the strategic plan. Serves effectively on various boards and management committees to increase awareness of nursing and quality activities, advance achievement of organizational strategic goals and strengthen inter-divisional cooperation and collaboration.

    Leads nursing Quality and Safety initiatives as designated to achieve top decile performance levels and achieve the Trinity Health Triple Aim, working together with the Regional and Hospital based CMOs. Leads the assurance and delivery of high quality, safe patient care that provides patients, families and referring physicians with a consistent, best-in-class customer experience. Promotes clinical integration across the Region at both inpatient and outpatient sites, improvement and alignment to advance patient safety and outcomes while monitoring quality and maintaining continuous survey readiness. Monitors key satisfaction metrics (i.e., colleague, patient and family) and identifies opportunities for improvement and strategies to ensure key stakeholder support, confidence and satisfaction. Routinely identifies process improvement opportunities and directs the implementation of changes in assigned departments, hospitals and across the region.

    Develops capital and operational budgets to ensure appropriate allocation of resources to support operation HM programs and meet organizational goals. Responsible for budget management and oversight to achieve fiscal goals. Participates in decision-making for the organizational budget. Monitors financial performance of across areas of responsibility and works to maximize financial impact.

    Arranges systems, functions and resources within span of control to maximize quality of service/high patient satisfaction and/or efficient operations, as well as to achieve organizational objectives with business affiliations. Recruits, interviews and selects staff in collaboration with organization policy and ensures that staffing guidelines/standards are maintained in accordance with patient care and/or departmental requirements. Utilizes measurements of quality and productivity to evaluate systems and staffing. Develops and implements policies and management/ operational structures to ensure continuous quality service, patient access, customer service excellence and enhanced profitability.

    Fosters a culture consistent with the Trinity Health values, positive team collaboration and staff development to facilitate efficient operations, physician/colleague engagement and achievement of patient service/safety/satisfaction goals. Oversees human resource functions including recruitment, training and performance management to maintain the highest quality workforce. Establishes and maintains effective relations with medical staff and provides proactive support for clinical development and active involvement in decision-making. Develops leaders to use abilities and talents to accomplish goals.

    Provides effective communication to local and Trinity Health administration, Nursing leadership, management and staff to establish understanding of the organization mission and strategic goals necessary to achieve organizational goals. Meets regularly with hospital CNOs and Presidents, key physician leaders and direct reports to facilitate communication, goal setting and decision making. Represents the programs, services and achievements of the health system to the community, regulatory agencies, media and government. Monitors and communicates mission and goal achievement of business affiliations as appropriate.

    Actively engages in professional development to maintain current skills and knowledge of environment trends, clinical developments and business opportunities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Required: Master's Degree (Preferred: Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.))

    Specify Degree(s): Nursing degree required as one of the degrees. MSN, MBA, MHA, or related field

    Ten (10+) years of previous job-related experience. Managerial Experience: Five (5+) years, Managerial experience required in a health care setting, preferably in a large hospital or health system.

    Current Registered Nurse License.
