    RISK MANAGER -- Captive Operations - Decatur, IL or Erlanger, KY.

    This is a full-time exempt position.

    Position Summary: ADM seeks a Risk Manager -- Captive Operations to lead operations of the company's wholly-owned captive insurance company. We are looking for an analytical, innovative, solution-oriented person with the desire and ability to drive improvement and identify efficiencies. The Risk Manager will report to ADM's Director for Insurance & Risk Management in Chicago, and partner and interact regularly with our commercial, operations, finance, and legal colleagues to implement and communicate captive insurance solutions for existing and emerging risks. This role will advise the company on coverage elections, insurance structures, policy wording, and overall risk management. The role will lead operations of the captive's wholly-owned captive insurance company, including direction of the captive's external management company.

    Job Responsibilities: The position will be responsible for the following:

    • Partnering with internal stakeholders globally across ADM's footprint in the United States and Canada to identify existing and emerging operational and financial risks;

    • In connection with ADM's external insurance broker, and the ADM global insurance team, designing insurance solutions for those risks, utilizing market-based solutions and ADM's captive;

    • Leading and partnering with other members of the Insurance & Risk Management Team on department initiatives to drive efficiencies and strengthen results, with a particular focus on driving value to our internal clients;

    • Working closely with risk management professionals and internal business units to proactively reduce or eliminate losses in all responsible lines of business.

    • Efficiently managing communications involving third-party adjusters, insurance brokers, primary and excess insurance carriers, captive insurance company, and others to ensure accuracy in notifications, reserves, and financial reporting.

    • Assist in leveraging and improving internal systems for data collection, analysis, and reporting of claim and loss information.

    • Advising the company on coverage elections, insurance structures, policy wording and overall risk management.

    Job Requirements:

    The ideal candidate will be hands-on and inventive and possess a strong work ethic and professional persona in addition to the following:

    • Track record of outstanding achievement in the Insurance & Risk Management field with a demonstrated desire and ability to proactively take on challenging work;

    • Experience leading captive operations for a regulated captive insurance company, including all regulatory and audit-related requirements, periodic reporting, and allocation equity;

    • Experience with insurance issues related to large scale manufacturing facilities, agricultural products, food and beverage, and flavorings preferred but not required;

    • Ability to exercise prudent judgment involving issues of a highly-confidential and sensitive nature;

    • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and adapt to changes in environment and responsibilities;

    • Commitment to continuous learning, especially new technologies;

    • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) required;

    • A college degree is required, preferably in insurance, risk management, or finance. Alternatively, relevant experience may substitute for a degree in these particular fields Prior experience as director of insurance and risk management program preferred.
