  • About Ford

Come help build a better world, where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams. Ford Motor Company was built on the belief that freedom of movement drives human progress. It's a belief that has fueled our passion to create great cars and trucks. And today, it drives our commitment to become the world's most trusted mobility company, designing vehicles for a smart world that helps people move more safely, confidently, and freely. Ford is experiencing significant business transformation in an ever-changing digital world. We are dedicated to delivering distinctive products and solutions, having an "always on" relationship with customers and continuously improving our user experience.

    The Opportunity

Ford is engaged in a multi-year global transformation of our Computer and Data assets. The fundamental element of the transformation is cloud transformation and migration to the Google Cloud Platform. The Database assets are currently distributed between On-prem and Cloud (primarily GCP). The data granularity varies from near real time (plant floor systems) to analytics and mainframes. The transformation is based on empowering Product Teams to use a standard and easy-to-use database and analytics layers. This simplification will provide customers with the "must-have" DB services/platforms they need with greater autonomy, while keeping their data protected to deliver positive business outcomes. Additionally, the transformation will accelerate new development and reduce legacy DB support by embracing managed support options such as DBaaS. This is aligned with GCP's first strategy and leverages GCP's transformational database technologies for next-gen cloud-native applications requiring the highest levels of scalability and availability. Finally, the transformation will favor open-source to reduce commercial software dependency and shrink the legacy Oracle, SQL Server, & DB2 footprint. Our Database Strategy North Star is "Fit for Purpose", GCP First, DBaaS and Open-Source.
