    Collins Aerospace Propeller Systems is seeking a talented Senior Manager for Design Engineering to lead and execute propeller design activities. You will manage a group of approximately 10 engineers with expertise in hydromechanical actuation and controls, primary structure design, and structural analysis. You will also support existing certified propeller systems on over 2000 aircraft in both the commercial and military domain, as well actively working several major upgrade activities while preparing for the next generation propeller system development opportunity. You will communicate and coordinate within the Collins Aerospace Propeller Systems global organization with systems, drafting, aerodynamic analysis, and materials engineering in addition to reporting to program (value stream) organization. Your engineering activities are often worked as a joint effort with associates at the Collins Aerospace Propellers Systems facility in Figeac France.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Directly contribute to, as well as oversee design engineering activities in the concept, preliminary and detailed design, verification and validation (V&V), and service support phases of the assigned programs

    • Oversee and lead design activities for support of existing product as well as development of product modifications for military and commercial propeller platforms. Typical activities include the following:

    • FEA analyses of prime structures and hydromechanical components

    • Fatigue life analyses of complex structures

    • Propeller hub and retention analyses

    • Hydromechanical control development

    • Engineering change development, reviews, and approvals

    • Supplier Designed Equipment (SDE) specification development for specialized mechanical equipment (pumps, governors, etc.)

    • Perform necessary risk reduction and qualification testing (vibration/shock, hydraulic system tests, etc.)

    • Generate justification reports for mechanical components based on analysis and test activities

    • Participate as a key member of the Product Safety Review Board (PSRB) to represent design engineering for safety topics. This includes presenting any observed safety concerns for PSRB disposition.

    • Utilize CORE (Customer Oriented Results and Excellence) operating system as a foundation to support tactical and strategic activities.

    • Coordinate propeller design activities internationally with the design engineering manager of the Figeac-based team

    • Regularly review activities and transfer activities between groups as needed to ensure successful support of engineering projects as a single propeller engineering team.

    • Identify and support Research and Technology Development (R&T) activities for next generation tools (design optimization tools, improved design tools, etc.)

    • Improve standard work definition for common design activities

    • Ensure engineering support for non-conforming part engineering analysis and disposition in support of supply chain and production.

    • Provide necessary input to supply chain to allow effective supplier transitions.

    • Assign design engineers to, and be capable of, troubleshooting complex hydraulic and mechanical systems failures.

    • Participate in establishing project budgets, cost monitoring, effectiveness improvements to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and ensure that business objectives are met.

    • Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality and efficiency of the propeller organization's projects

    • Coordinate and work regularly with engineering, manufacturing, and management in both Windsor Locks, CT and Figeac, France.

    • Occasional domestic and international travel required to coordinate with internal management, suppliers, customers, and aircraft operators.

    Qualifications/Experience Needed

    • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and typically a minimum of 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and typically a minimum of 7 years of experience

    • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee or asylee) or eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations required

    • Structural analysis experience including FEA

    • Experience working as a team leader or people leader

    Qualifications/Experience Preferred

    • Aerospace experience

    • Experience with CATIA V5 or NXUG

    • Master's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering

    • Experience with aerospace design including (including DO160 Environmental Conditions and Test Procedures for Airborne Equipment)

    • Experience with hydraulic/mechanical control systems

    • Complex safety critical structure design and analysis experience

    • Fatigue life and structural analysis for complex metallic and composite structures

    • Full life cycle experience in design engineering from concept through entry into service

    • Experience with NASTRAN and PATRAN (or similar FEA tools)

    • Experience with MATLAB

    • Experience with diverse international teams

    • Management/leadership experience

    The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
