    The Opportunity

    The Sr Medical Education Manager works with Medical Affairs leadership in fostering the growth and development of Medical Education in Infectious Disease (ID) Business. This role is based in Lake Forest, IL . It may also be based in Willis Tower (in Chicago, IL) depending on office space availability.

    What You'll Work On

    The primary purpose of this role is to develop, implement, and manage education initiatives that align to and drive the business strategy of ID. This is a manager role, with one direct report, and will have travel of up to 25% mostly domestic.

    The person hired in this role will work closely with Medical Affairs leaders to align Medical Education initiatives that are developed, executed and measured for HCP engagement and impact. They are also a key player in implementing and identifying business needs for Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) to deliver a strategic message for peer-to-peer programs and other programs such as Advisory Boards/Focus groups. This person will also manage professional service agreements within the scope of responsibilities.

    The Sr Medical Education Manager understands and appreciates key opinion leaders and their role in Medical Education to support patient needs and product innovation for Abbott ID business. They are also responsible for integrating the business needs of ID with the potential talent pool of healthcare professionals in academia, institutions, and professional organizations/societies. In addition, they must be able to effectively communicate to healthcare professionals, foster and support the relationships and recommend approaches to most effectively leverage business needs with healthcare professionals via educational strategies.

    What You'll Work On

    • Responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and Procedures for Medical education.

    • Sets a vision for the role and provides innovation and creative solutions for Medical Education.

    • Designs develops and executes the annual medical education plan.

    • Understands key drivers/business impact and value of Medical Education activities.

    • Facilitates periodic review of departmental procedures and recommends policy changes in response to both internal and external requests, industry standards and updated regulations and technology.

    • Provides ongoing support in the area of process improvement. Implements tools and establishes work processes to enable the Medical Education team to improve communication and the decision-making process with increased focus on critical tasks. Recommends and implements innovative ways to improve project performance.

    • Conducts ongoing review of staff and project assignments to ensure adequate resources are available to meet departmental goals.

    • Provides subject matter expertise across in-house and external Medical Education activities.

    • Anticipates potential problems within Med Ed program and create contingency plans and propose recommendations for management action. Elevate potential changes in the regulatory or Med Ed environment to senior leadership.

    • Provides recommendations in decisions regarding work processes or operational plans and schedules in order to achieve departmental objectives.

    • Identifies problems, their resolution, trends, and their impact on project success; analyze date for true causes of problems.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree: Discipline appropriate to the project environment, clinical research, scientific and technical degree is preferred.

    • Minimum 5 years' experience in Medical Education, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

    • Medical Device/Diagnostics clinical experience is strongly preferred.

    • Management experience in other medical operations positions desirable.

    • Has successfully led several high complexity projects with great project management and communication skills.

    • Travel up to 25% mostly inside the United States.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Over 7 years of experience in Medical Education or similar roles.

    • At least one year of managing others as a supervisor or similar role in previous roles.

    • Project Management experience, certifications a plus.

    • Knowledge in Medical Device/Diagnostics and Infectious Diseases is preferred.

    The base pay for this position is $109,300.00 - $218,700.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
